1/30 Someone asked about knives a while back. These aren't 5 star knives,
        but a good deal:
        http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009XFSI/ref%3Dnosim/slickdeals/002-3925468-0256826
\_ what is a 5 star knife? Certainly not henckels or wusthof.
\_ wusthof has a $350 chef's knife. i hate ceramic knives. bite me.
\_ "5 Star" is one of Henckels' lines. I think the op was referring
to knives of high quality, though.
\_ Those look like crap to me. They are full-tang riveted, but they
are stamped, not forged, and made in China, which is not reknowned
for their good knives. Henckels and Wusthof make their better lines
in Germany and the cheaper ones in China and Spain. Stamped knives
like these go dull quickly, and have fairly flexible blades, which
makes them not very safe or easy to use.
That being said, I have seen reasonably cheap Chinese knives on
Amazon that were pretty good. The key diference was that they were
forged. The easy way to tell is that the blade gets thicker near the
top and has a lump of metal where the blade meets the handle.

Accessories for Sabatier Precision 38-Piece Knife Block and Tool Set . First, a stainless-steel utensil holder comes filled with nine essential stovetop utensils-a serving spoon, a slotted spoon, a skimmer, a spaghetti server, a soup ladle, a small slotted spatula, a large slotted spatula, a slotted turner, and a serving fork. All utensils are made of a durable plastic that is heat-safe up to 210 degrees Celsius and safe for use on nonstick and stainless-steel cookware surfaces. For baking, this kit packs a set of four stainless-steel graduated measuring cups in 1/4, -1/2-, 3/4-, and 1-cup sizes and stainless-steel measuring spoons in sizes of -, -, and 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon. Finally, this kit includes a 20-piece knife set from Sabatiers Precision line of knives. The set includes an 8-inch chefs knife, an 8-inch bread knife, an 8-inch slicer, an 8-inch filleting knife, a 6-inch boning knife, a 6-inch cleaver, a 5-inch utility knife, a 3-1/2-inch parer, eight 5-1/2-inch steak knives, a 6-inch fork, kitchen shears, and a sharpening steel to keep edges honed. Made in China, Precision knives are more affordable than some of Sabatiers other French-made knives; The blades are made of high-carbon stainless steel that are hollow-ground for easier sharpening and edge retention. Full tangs provide excellent balance when cutting and are triple-riveted to the germ-resistant polymer handle. Handwashing is recommended for proper maintenance of the blade and a lifetime limited warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship. Some would say that there are better, but for the price, it cant be beat. When we moved into our new apartment, we did not have time or money to buy one gourmet knife at a time, much less one utensil at a time. The knives are sharp and the measuring tools are accurate and the plastic utensils dont scrape or scratch non-stick pots and pans. The knife set comes with a sharpener, so you can sharpen the flat blade knives. I would recommend hand washing and drying the knives since one of ours has rust spots from when water sat on the blade overnight. The plastic utensils come with every type you can imagine one would need. We had a chef friend cook for us and he thought the knives were fine! I suppose my reaction isnt to the knives themselves- I havent even opened them since I imagine they are much like the other Sabatier set I purchased and those are adequate but nowhere near Henckel quality. My surprise and dismay really stems from the thin metal of the measuring cups and spoons. Not only are they tinny and poorly made, their edges are so sharp that you can slice a brick of cheese with them not good for a working cook! Overall, if youre looking for a starter set for college and dont need to impress too many people including yourself, this is a great deal. You get more knives at a better price than you could find at Target or Wal-Mart or elsewhere, plus the extra accoutrements to round out your initial cooking toolset. For established cooks, or even casual connoisseurs, either spend a little more on one of the other sets Amazon offers or build your knive collection one at a time, spending as youre able, to obtain lasting, quality cutlery. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and in this case, that truism applies doubly! Just because this set looks like a great deal at $50, youre ultimately going to get what you pay for. All Customer Reviews Average Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. Please do not wash any knives in the dishwasher - they will eventually disintegrate. Also do not leave them soaking or sitting in water, ie same result. Just handwash and clean after use, what one should do anyway with every tool that has a handle attached to a blade. One other reason to never put knives in a dishwasher is that the banging harsh detergents will result in damaged and dull blades faster than one believes. Review changed to a maximum of a 1-star rating, as my original rating does not apply any more! Suggestion Box Your comments can help make our site better for everyone.
