3/29 A friend wants a PC (no mac). She doesn't want Dell. Is there a
good place that can custom build for you (SSD, large RAM, cheap video

\_ As a side note: back in my Cal days more than two decades ago when
having a 387SX made me the only person with floating-point hardware,
           most machines were custom built.

1/12 Good news everyone! You get to enjoy another month of instability, since
the manufacturer dropped the ball and the case+power for the server we

9/21 So I did it and got myself a Macbook Pro. Any suggestions for the best
PC->Mac transition? After finding out that Outlook is not supported

11/19 I have both pcmia cards for my wi-fi and my usb 2.0 on my DELL I8200.
Even though have 2 slots; the usb2.0 card makes it next to

they sell longer cards? Should I consider an internal mini-pci wifi?

8/23 Hi motd. I recently got a Dell Latitude D610 from work. There is a
"Hard Drive Password" feature in BIOS. After setting it, now every
time I boot it asks me for this before it loads the OS.
Does anyone know if this password is stored on the drive or on the
mobo? E.g., if the latter, I can just put the drive in an external
enclosure and access all files. Thanks. I suspect the latter.

Some United States customers have complained that the Indian technical-support representatives are difficult to communicate with because of thick accents and scripted responses. Tech support for corporate customers with Optiplex desktop and Latitude notebook computers will instead be handled from call centers in Texas, Idaho and Tennessee, Dell spokesman Jon Weisblatt said Monday. Calls from some home PC owners will continue to be handled by the technical support center in Bangalore, India, and Weisblatt said Dell has no plans to scale back the operation there. Customers werent satisfied with the level of support they were receiving, so were moving some calls around to make sure they dont feel that way anymore, Weisblatt said. He would not discuss the nature of the dissatisfaction with the call center in Bangalore. Dell is one of a number of high-tech companies that have in recent years moved jobs to India and other developing nations for the cheaper labor, which in Dells case helps keep down the cost of providing round-the-clock support. Corporate customers account for about 85 percent of Dells business, with only 15 percent coming from the consumer market. Among Dell customers dissatisfied with the companys use of overseas labor is Ronald Kronk, a Presbyterian minister in Rochester, Pennsylvania, who has spent the last four months trying to solve a problem that resulted in his being billed for two computers. Theyre extremely polite, but I call it sponge listening - they just soak it in and say, I can understand why youre angry, but nothing happens, Kronk said. He added: Every time I see a Dell commercial on TV, I just cringe. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
