LATEST NEWS April 11, 2003 States unemployment rate declines Californias unemployment rate was 66 percent in March, down from a revised 67 percent in February, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.
The jobless rate in Silicon Valley Santa Clara County dropped slightly to 84 percent from 85 percent in February. The number of people unemployed in California last month was 1,159,000 - a decrease of 20,000 from February, but up by 13,000 compared with March of last year. In Santa Clara County, there were 78,100 people out of work and actively looking for a job in March, according to the EDD survey. Santa Clara County had more people unemployed last month than any county in the state except Los Angeles 299,500, which has a work force thats more than five times as large. Once again, Santa Clara County has the highest jobless rate in the Bay Area. Other counties and their March unemployment rates are: Alameda, 67 percent;
