11/4 Holy cow, I got a warning from my ISP that they were notified
        by BSA/baytsp.com that I was copying music/video/software.
Do they do port scan or something? That's a first for me.
\_ They hang out on P2P networks and track IP addresses. -tom
\_ I believe they are paid by content providers to perform this
monitoring service, so you should only run this risk with content
from certain sources (such as Fox movies)
              \_ That's probably true. -tom

11/4 I posted the probability question the other day. It was nothing as
complicated as MTBF or the like. My situation is very similar to
looking at auto accident rates, asking if the rate of caraccidents
for any given driver is N%/year, what is the chance that for a
given day that driver will have a crash? N% or N/365% or something
        else? Thanks again.
        \_ keywords: stats statistics
        \_ http://www.businessinsider.com/answers-to-15-more-google-interview-questions-that-will-make-you-feel-stupid-2009-11#if-the-probability-of-observing-a-car-in-30-minutes-on-a-highway-is-095-what-is-the-probability-of-observing-a-car-in-10-minutes-assuming-constant-default-probability-2
\_ You'd have to know something about the distribution of car crashes.
Presumably they're more likely to happen around holidays and such.
Few real-world situations have flat distributions. -tom
\_ Agreed. However, if you're willing to assume a flat
distribution, your probability should be (1-N%)^(1/365)
              neglicting leap years. -- yuen
\_ That doesn't seem to make intuitive sense. If N=10%
then your calculation says there is a 99.97%
probability you WILL crash on any given day.
                   \_ Look at the inverse.
\_ Oops. I forgot the "1 -" part. It should be
                      1 - (1-N%)^(1/365). -- yuen
\_ why are you giving away the fish?
                         Teach a man to FISH!!!

11/2 Guangdong of China installs big breasts. Did the State pay for it?
IMHO there should be a Separation of Breast and State:

10/4 What the hell is with the female tech CEOs now running for
office as REPUBLICANS? What the fuck?
Meg Whitman? Give me a break.
        Carly Fiorina? No way Jose.
\_ This is pretty strange. Why would a CEO want to take a step
           down like that?
           \_ Because she was fired?

10/4 Air in San Fran-San Jose is pretty good! Los Angeles is
surprisingly good as well. Big surprise: Seattle is
a little bit worse than San Fran-San Jose!
        http://www.copd-international.com/library/asthma-hot-spots_2004.htm
\_ The parts of California and Florida that rated highly don't have a
           lot of pesky pollen-producing trees.
\_ San Francisco has much better air than San Jose. It is not
primarily due to the excessive virtue of the citizenry, it is
mostly due to prevailing wind conditions.
\_ thanks to the wind, we don't have to smell stinky
bike riding liberals who don't take shower, and
the smell of second hand weed.
\_ Yeah it all blows into the Central Valley where they have
to put up with the scent of patchouli, weed and unwashed
                 armpits.
\_ Hawaii must be super clean then

11/4 2 nerdy/liberal looking guys shooting a commercial in
Nowhere, Alabama. Trailers. P.S. Alabama women. Star.
        Natural. NIIIIICE:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msumaGL_wwQ&annotation_id=annotation_405446&feature=iv
\_ My girlfriend's mom's family is from Alabama and we own a home
there. That girl looks and acts like most of my girlfriend's
cousins. I like Southern women. Best part is they don't expect
too much from you. Don't beat them up, have a job, and have all
your teeth and you'll have to fight them off. You might have
to have a shootout with her ex- when he gets out of jail, though.
           (True story.)
\_ that is awesome. Southern women are wholesome. STAR!
Do they actually dig libural looking guys like those geeky
              film-makers?
\_ The actual commercial is even more funny. I wonder if it's a real
commercial that they're going to air, or it's just made for fun.
