10/14 Biggs, Wedge, let's close it up. We're going in. We're going in full throttle. \_ You think you're funny or clever, but you're not. \_ yep, I was very reluctant to quote Luke, but ... also, I do not think I am funny or clever in this post. There is nothing funny at all about the U.S. financial system and its looming effects on the average American. \_ Then why all the Star Wars trolls? \_ I do not think THIS post is funny/clever. It's Luke. And I'm not looking forward to more Luke quotes. I'll stop for the time being. -op \_ You're right. I'll stop. -op \_ Too bad, it was funnier when only a few people could figure out what you were talking about. \_ but Luke is so dang annoying -op \_ I think you are funny, please keep it up. I can't wait to find out who plays the ghost of Obi-Wan. \_ Obi-Wan == Volcker Luke == Mass of not very well run hedge funds/SWFs Yoda == Nouriel Roubini \- er, ok: http://gawker.com/5063337/the-secret-pleasures-of-dr-doom i think PVOLKER is probably more the yoda. or maybe FROHATYN Palpatine == Greenspan Leia == Sheila Bair Galactic Senate == Congress \_ Who's Jar-Jar Binks? \_ ob Jar-Jar == Dubya \_ Paulson looks more like Jar Jar. \_ take off Vader's helmut - it's Hank! \_ You are all too nerdy to live. \_ You == Storm Trooper #2 |

10/14 Credit card questions: 1) how long do credit card info stay on your credit report? I just saw my cred report for the first time and was pissed to see certain things over 10 years ago!!! \_ Positive ratings can stay on indefinitely. Was it a positive or negative thing? I think negative things have to come off after seven years. 2) I just tried to cancel a bunch of cards (and I have perfect record with them) and they gave me a hard time saying that I don't want to cancel my card because I've had over 13 years with them and that doing so will hurt my credit, therefore, I should keep them. WTF? Is that really true even though you have a card that you never intend to use? \_ Yes. Your score includes the age of your oldest account, and the average age of your accounts. http://csua.org/u/mn7 \_ Keep the one that has the longest credit record. Total credit history is important. For some reason my student loan fell off my credit history and my credit score dropped (not much, like 10 points, but still it was annoying) \_ Get your credit limit set to as low as you can and then cut up the card. Your history will remain. |

10/14 2 apache 2.0.52 servers running on Linux boxes. Identical httpd.conf files (except for ServerName). But on one, if a CGI script takes longer than 300 seconds, it times out. The other, not. Why is that? \_ Perhaps network equipment configuration. Or try comparing settings in /proc/sys/net. \_ I ran /sbin/sysctl -a | grep tcp, all settings are the same. The only difference I've found so far is that one httpd binary is 32 bit, the other 64 bit. \_ That's a huge difference. Why is that? Your systems aren't even close to similar. Start with that thesis instead of the "identical" thesis. Is one of them a Pentium Pro and the other one a quad core P4, too? \_ They are two separate systems. But the question still is why does one time out, while the other one does not. \_ Could be lots of reasons. What are the differences? Why is one running a 64bit binary, for instance? As it stands your systems don't seem similarly configured or spec'd at all so it's not surprising they behave differently. So what are the differences? Answer that and you have your answer. Also switch network ports (A<->B) and IPs to eliminate that from the equation. |

10/14 Are DX/EF-S lenses in general less well built than FX/EF lenses? \_ Don't know about Nikon, but there are no L-class EF-S lenses, which means no environmentally sealed (mostly anyway) EF-S lenses. They also don't make big metal cased telephoto primes for EF-S, so obviously, you won't find such tank-like builds in EF-S, but it's not an issue of "less well built" but rather "non-existent." \_ why you are even WORRY the build quality of these lenses? Most of people, you probably included, tend to be very careful about their lenses that the build quality is not really an issue. More lenses got damaged during the process of cleaning it than anything else. Secondly, since camera are moving towards full- frame, your DX lenses are probably going to get outdated before you really use it. |

How could he have just run out of money? This is baffling. I hope he didn't blow it up on hookers. \_ On margin investments are how you make (and lose) 1.2 mil. \_ You're an idiot. You probably think the $50M to put up a net on the GG bridge is a good investment? \_ Jumping off the bridge: jumper dies Shooting guns: someone may grab your gun, or you go nuts and shoot innocent people, or your child shoots accidentally \_ Jumping off the bridge: Causes a traffic jam, politicians waste time and money talking about it. Shoots self: No traffic jam, politicians waste time and money talking about it anyway. The bigger picture, of course, is that it is completely acceptable loss to the gains, just like allowing people to have massive weapons that are cars. \_ What is worse, causing traffic jam or accidentally or intentionally killing your family members and by-standers because you went balistic? \_ You could probably kill a bunch of people with a car if you decided to do so. \_ right. Exactly. People also shouldn't have cars, or swimming pools Or be allowed to take their kids to mcdonalds. Why don't all these fools see how right we are and how wrong they are. |
