9/8 So err, how many of you computer SCIENTISTS think it would be hunky dory to have a VP that wants to teach creationism in our schools? \_ How many of you computer SCIENTISTS have figured out this is a completely untrue smear? \_ Yeah, she so crazy! "I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum," she said. \_ "I am a proponent of teaching both." \_ http://csua.org/u/mai Basically, she doesn't seem to care. There was an argument, she said, "Heck, teach both." When peope didn't like that, she said something along the lines of "nevermind." It's pretty disingenous to claim she "wants to teach creationism in schools." \_ It's also disingenuous to pretend that "teaching both" is reasonable debate and not simply pushing mythology (and Xian cosmogony). Palin: "It's OK to let kids know that there are theories out there. They gain information just by being in a discussion." That's Intelligent Design, and it's not a theory, it's mythology. \_ Sure, and I agree with you. So what? She hasn't pushed it, and seems to have no real interest in the question. \_ It's a tough nut as well. ID is a joke, but "teach both" sounds fair until you look hard into it. \_ No one will accuse her of being an intellectual pinhead. She's vocally pro abstinence only sex ed in schools (HA HA HA HA), she \_ No she's not, she very clearly said she's for teaching birth control as well as abstinence in schools. claimed that we are in Iraq as part of God's plan (I can almost \_ No she didn't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H-btXPfhGs _/ \_ Yah, I've seen the video. She didn't say what you think she said. give her a break since she didn't write her convention election speech, but I bet Obama and Biden wrote theirs). Her whole \_ Show the evidence that *any* of the speakers at either convention wrote their own speech. denying wanting funding for the Bridge To Nowhere is odd, since.. that is demonstratably false. I have some relatives up near '\ the bridge to nowhere', the press never mentions that it's actually that is demonstratably false. I have some relatives up near the bridge to nowhere', the press never mentions that it's actually not to nowhere, it's to an island that has an airport that is used by the entire area. It's a complete pain to take the ferry from the airplane island to the mainland, Everyone for hundreds of miles uses the airport. It's actually quite handy. \_ "everyone for 100s of miles" up there is 300 people. \_ There's a lot of oil/gas/fishing industry up there. You could make a case that they should have just built their own bridge if it was so important. \_ http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html |

9/9 I am a democrat but my prediction is Obama will lose. He's a better speech giver, but what exactly has he done? He can talk the talk but there's no proof that he has what it takes do to the job. He had a golden opportunity to pick Hillary as the VP to form the dream ticket. It would've shown to the outside world that he will unite force with competitors for the common good, and he can put aside criticisms in the past. The combined ticket will also benefit from advice and help from Bill Clinton, who bought us 8 great years before the current bush fuckup, and whom I and a lot of people highly respect. But no, his current pick shows his arrogance (who needs the Clintons), immaturity (pick a white dude with more experience but less well known), insecurity (Clintons will have different view from him so his job will be easier without the Clintons), and over estimating himself. He is a black person after all. While I have nothing against black people, wining the election as a black person will be quite a challenge in itself. He's not Collin Powell, he's just a young black dude with good speaking skill at a good opportunity, but has yet to prove himself. Will there be enough people that trust him? It was a very smart move for McCain to pick a female VP. You have a war hero with a woman VP to win those voters that supports woman in politics. Unfortunately this will be a much bigger percentage than the die hard Clinton supporters that will vote for Obama because they've got no choice. Personally I probably won't even vote. The only way Obama is going to win is if the country really got sick and tired of the Republican Party after 8 years and wants something different. If this is the only thing he's banking on then it's very risky. Let's just hope that the war trained McCain got more common senses than Bush does so it won't be that bad if McCain wins. \_ You know what? You might be right that O could lose. However, you're still an idiot. \_ I'm a decline-to-state who voted for Hilary in the primary and McCain in the 2000 primary. I've always (so far) voted Democrat in Presidential elections. I am not wild about Obama, but I don't think he will lose. I think the choice of Biden was a good one (Biden was my pick for President above Hilary, but dropped out before I voted). The Clintons are very polarizing, which is what I told my Democrat friends back when Hilary was running for the Senate. A lot of people love them, but a lot of people really hate them. I think their association hurt Al Gore and Bill didn't do Hilary any favors in this election. Obama was wise to avoid them. McCain isn't really loved by anyone, even Republicans, because he is a loose cannon and Palin's strength is in appealing to voters who weren't going to vote for Obama anyway. I guess it draws out Republicans who might have stayed home otherwise if that was an issue. I think a Biden/Obama ticket makes more sense than an Obama/Biden ticket. My main beef with Obama is that I still know almost nothing about him or his record. He's a very charismatic speaker which makes me nervous, because people like that can be convincing. That *can* be a plus, but I don't like that attribute when mixed with his status as a relative unknown. I like leaders with a track record. \_ That is basically the same thing The Economist said about him, that he needs to define himself better if he wants to win. \- the fact that sarah palin appeals to anyone is a deep condemnation of america. and why are you paraoid about barak's unknowns rather than palin's knowns and things mccain has said he would do [like further plutocratization]. between experience and somebody treating me with contempt ["alaska is on the border \- the fact that sarah palin appeals to anyone is a deep condemnation of america. and why are you paraoid about barak's unknowns rather than palin's knowns and things mccain has said he would do [like further plutocratization]. between experience and somebody treating me with contempt ["alaska is on the border with russia, thus ..."] and additionally there some some evidence obama is refelctive, unlike BUSHCO ... and may studies show often the incompetent are overly confident. \_ What does this say? 9/9 Liberals keep talking about how Palin is loud, annoying, obnoxious. Liberals hate candidates with big egos & obnoxious personality. You know what? That's exactly what conservatives vote for. Palin is playing the Ronald Reagan card... fuck all issues and just look nice on TV and be bright and be seen. The Ronald Reagan card is wins 48% of the votes, and is exactly what will get candidates into office. Sorry liberals, you just don't get it. \_ What sort of troll are you? \_ Right. If the Dems "got it," they'd remind people that: --McCain divorced his first wife, a former swim-wear model, after she was horribly disfigured in a car accident. \_ Dude are you serious? URL? \_ actually this is true. while McCain was in POW camp, his wife was in a terrible car accident that required 25+ surgeries that left her 4 inches shorter. she didn't tell him this while he was in POW camp, figuring he was suffering enough. when he got back to the states, he divorced her, and soon married the rich Arizona heiress. \_ Who was young enough to be his daughter. \_ The Daily Mail is a horrible rag, and yet I think they managed to capture the outrage pretty accurately on this: http://preview.tinyurl.com/6gbzhw (Daily Mail) \_ According to the article, he got back to the US in 1973, and divorced her in 1980. So it's a pretty big stretch to say he divorced her because of the accident. -tom \_ Good point. It's more accurate to say that he was running around on her, chasing other women, and that he divorced her to marry a rich and pretty younger trophy wife. --McCain called his second wife a cunt. How dare they take the high road! \_ The cunt story is dumb. If you've ever been in a relationship you'll know that there are sometimes ugly fights. The divorce stuff does, however, say something about McCain. \_ Frankly, what the guy says in privacy (or at least in hushed tones) doesn't particularly matter to me. Saying it in public just makes me wince. It _is_ dumb; he ought to know better. |

9/8 What is with PALIN and her BLATANT LIES? wtf http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/2008/09/tpmtv_palin_a_reformer_simply_laughable_--_background.php \_ Wait, so "politico" is a right-wing rag, and tpm is okay?!? \_ Do you deny the charges? Even the WSJ is noticing how much of a liar Palin is. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122090791901411709.html \_ I'm looking into the bridge issue. It's the only one that may have merit. However, considering how much mud has been thrown, I'm not going to accept it unless it's rock-solid. Also, the Alaskan Dems credited her with killing it, though they've since scrubbed their site of that. Here's the google cache: http://tinyurl.com/5cqdw9 \_ Once it became obvious that the Bridge was a national disgrace AND CONGRESS WASN'T WILLING TO FUND THE ENTIRE THING, Palin killed the project because she didn't want to spend state money on it, but happilly kept all the money the federal government had given her already for the project. Read that WSJ article, I'm pretty sure WSJ is ideologically pure enough for you. \_ "However, Gov. Sarah Palin said the $398 million bridge was $329 million short of full funding, and only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it. She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the state had higher priorities." This hardly sounds like "killing it." Also, there is a charge that although they stopped the project, AK kept the money. \- also WSJ: ...today, Sen. McCain again asserted that Sen. Obama has requested nearly a billion in earmarks. In fact, the Illinois senator requested $311 million last year, according to the Associated Press, and none this year. In comparison, Gov. Palin has requested $750 million in her two years as governor -- which the AP says is the largest per-capita request in the nation. |
