6/17 I really don't understand this 100MPG plug-in hybrid hype. If you
charge the big battery up and drive only 5-10 miles in between
charges and NEVER use the gasoline, wouldn't you technically have
an infinite MPG vehicle? Do you see how lame it is to call it
a 100MPG plug-in hybrid if your power source comes elsewhere?
\_ URL for the 100MPG claim please?
           \_ http://www.calcars.org/calcars-news/364.html for one.
              Yes, it's lame. -tom
\_ The way I interpret this is that for the Prius you still need
the gas engine for acceleration. The gas engine and elec.
motor by itself is not powerful enough for all driving
situation. If you go 100% electric, you'll have a really
low-powered car. So instead of the elec. motor assisting
the gas engine, you are doing the opposite. Thus the 100MPG
claim for the first 30-40 miles. Yes, the power comes from
other source, but it is easier to market it as MPG. The
average person has no clue how much electricity is really
used in terms of driving or everyday usage.
\_ yes, it's easier to market complete falsehoods. "My commute
is 50 miles including a 25 mile ferry ride, so I get 100MPG
              in my Prius!" -tom
\_ If that's the intention, the author should use phrases like "an
              equivalent of 100MPG".

6/17 Thanks a lot GWB for your fucking idiotic ethanol and free-market
        petro initiative:
        http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19276523
        \_ Stop encouraging the terrorists.
        \_ I still don't understand (well, actually I do, it's just that
the reason is stupid) why we slap hefty tariffs on ethonal
from Brazil, where they're able to produce it much more cheaply
and efficiently (directly from sugar rather than corn.) -John
\_ I read that even their version is still not nearly as
efficient as plain old gasoline while requiring huge amounts
              of land.
\_ that is not a fair comparison. We heavily subsidize petroleum
and coal industry that it's not even funny. When I say
'subsidies,' I count relaxzation of tail gas and other
                 environmental regulation as a "subsidies."
\_ Because the point of ethanol isn't to become "energy independent"
the point is to shift massive amounts of taxpayer dollars to
corporations like ADM. But the message "We've figured out a
way to enrich ADM shareholders" doesn't have the same catchy
popular appear as "an energy independent America"
\_ the hell? there is NOTHING FREE-MARKET about this ethanol thing
and I still don't understand all these so-called liberals who
pride themselves been more intelligent than those from Bush
Countries fell for it. Fact: right now, government subsides
about $1 per gallon for fuel-grade ethanol. Fact: we impose 18%
tariff on ethanol imports. IMHO, all these money goes to corn
producers instead of true innovations bothers me. This is why
I don't believe this entire EthOH thing.

6/13 Spielberg endorses Hillary.
\_ How is this any suprise? This Clintons, like Obama and Gore
are owned by Jews and products of finance and media Jews.

        \_ [racist troll deleted, twice]
\_ how is it racist to point out that the Democratic party
is wholly controlled by individuals who own the media
and sectors of finance, and who constitute a tiny fraction
of a tenth of a percent of the population? I am telling
you who your master's are, even though you are too
                   blind to see it.
\_ Why would *anyone* outside Hillary's campaign care? Anyone who
votes based on Spielberg's "endorsement" is too stupid to live.

6/16 Happy Father's Day!
How many of you motd posters are parents?
\_ The day that I become a parent is the day that I lose my
weekends, sex, and freedom in general.
\_ True, but I like it anyway. (Actually, I find that if I help my
wife around the house, I get plenty of sex.)
\_ Do you both have a full time job outside the house?
\_ Yes, and 2 young children. I've decieded to regularly
sacrifice my own lesuire time in order to help my wife be
happy. It works out pretty well.
\_ No kidding, sex is much more steady when married. -dad

\_ True, and I hate it, and I knew it even before I became a
parent. But my wife insisted having kids.
