4/2 Is Rachel Ray fat?
        \_ Doesn't look too bad.
        \_ She's fat for a supermodel. She's fat for a female
celebrity. She's not fat by American averages.
\_ ob is she fat by soda standards?
\_ ob is she fat by soda averages?
\_ By soda's fat ugly nerd standards, she's fucking HOT.

4/2 I'm single but my buddy got married 2 years ago. My buddy says
his wife is trying to weed out all of his single friends, including
me. Why? why why why? What's wrong with me? I didn't do nothing
to her, why is she doing this to me? Bitch!
\_ Likely she just feels left out when he hangs out with you. If
you're married you'll have a wife to entertain her.
\_ Are you just trying to understand what is going on, or do you
want to affect the default trajectory. This seems to be a
simpler case since it appears your friend understands what is
going on, so it's up to him to explain or change. Or is your
real point, your friend is a loser for "letting" this happen
and you are just venting your frustration?
\_ Dirt common. There's nothing you can do about it. It is up to him
to keep his friends. I'm married but I prefer not to do couples
events so the same thing has happened to me several times. It's
           just the way of things.
\_ Amusingly, after years of doing this to me, my wife recently asked
me why I don't have any friends I hang out with. She said my lack
           of friends is "weird."
\_ what's "weird" is you begin by calling this "amusing".
I suppose there is something to be said for not losing your
sense of humor as you lose your friends.
\_ Eh, I've always been more family oriented than friend
oriented. It wasn't that big a deal for me. I'm odd.
\_ Then she didn't do anything to you. You didn't care about
                    your friends.
\_ Ok, I guess? So, forcing the choice between 2 good
things doesn't count as doing anything?
Or, to put it another way, caring more about A than B
means you don't care about B at all?

4/2 EMI and Apple partner to sell DRM-free music
        \_ cue the Sex Pistols
\_ But Jobs remains ambivalent re DRM-free video:
"Video is pretty different from music right now because the video
industry does not distribute 90 percent of their content DRM
free. Never has. So I think they are in a pretty different
situation, and I wouldn't hold it to a parallel at all."
\_ They're releasing music only in AAC format. I think
only ipods play that. Yes I know your home computer will
play it, I'm talking about mobile devices.
\_ Microsoft has every right to add AAC support in their
music players if they wanted to just like Apple can
add WMV support if they chose to pay Microsoft the license
fees. They just choose not to. They're both just as bad
as the other in that sense.
\_ Just convert aac to mp3 and you can play it on any portable
player. Or you could just buy an iPod like everyone else,
instead of being stuck with some lame pos.

4/2 New Century files for bankruptcy
\_ Any idea how many defaults are occuring in the Bay area?
           \_ (
It really depends on the county. SF/Santa Clara/Marin remain
strong. Concentration of rich bastards and plentiful $80-150K
jobs do that to an area. Look at Manhattan.
              \_ Um...but you can't afford an SF house on a 150K income...
                 \_ dual-income via marriage/SO/friend + family help +
several years of saving for a deposit assumed
\_ Sure you can. There are plenty of starter homes for
$700k in The City. And a person who makes 150k can
afford the $3k/mo (after tax break) that this costs.
\_ Actually there aren't plenty of $700K starter homes
any more. The price is still going up.
\_ Going to putting in price from 650-700
and including only districts 1-9 (excluding 10)
gives me 25 homes. If I include 10, which is the
roughest part of town, I get 65. Granted, most of
the 25 are pretty small, but that is what $700k
                          gets you these days.
\_ And in 6 unit ellis acted tics. Or maybe in
the farthest reaches of visitation valley.
Any place remotely buyable is snapped up ASAP.
The SF markey is still insane.
\_ You may want to visit to
commiserate with others in your same
\_ How sad that $700k is considered a starter
home and you get the benefits of slum life
                                   to go with it.
