2/22 "Russians, British meet over spy death"
        http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070220/ap_on_re_eu/poisoned_spy
What's the point for the Brits to work with Russian investigators if
they think the Russian govt itself is involved?
\_ Apply pressure and hope they trip up.
\_ There's no point. Nothing will come of it. It's just cold war
stuff at a lower than cold war levels.

2/22 Minnesota, a central state, beats the liberal CA on renewable energy.
        http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070222/ap_on_re_us/renewable_energy
\_ I favor breeder reactors for renewable energy.
\_ I don't care at all which state "beats" some other state at
whatever. However, 1) CA is really 2.5 states smashed together
which have competing interests, 2) CA is a larger state, physically,
by population, expenses (and income), etc, 3) we all win when one
region shows that something good can work and by having already
done so, makes it cheaper for everyone else since the first mover
has solved certain problems or shown how certain directions are
           wrong. I don't see why a "central" state can't "beat" a "liberal"
state on renewable energy or anything else.

2/22 Oh great Root, is IMAP server still down? How are people d/ling
their emails nowadays? Or has the mail server settings changed?

2/22 Is there a .gif to .jpg utility on soda? Thanks.
        \_ convert
Lots and lots of options, very powerful.
2007/2/22-26 [Politics/Foreign/Asia/Korea] UID:45795 Activity:low
2/22 Korea tested a nuke and we're not doing anything about it. Iran
is planning to test a nuke in a year or so and we're having a cow.
What's with the double standard? If anything we should disarm these
        sneeky bastards first.
\_ Seoul is within arty range of over 1K arty pieces buried inside
           NK mountains.
\_ Why did they choose for capital a city that close to the NK
              border anyway?
\_ It is a lot harder to disarm someone who has the bomb than it is
to prevent them from getting one. What do you recommend to disarm
NK? Nuking half of NK? A land invasion would make Iraq look like
the police action it is. An air campaign would be useless.
\_ There is no oil in NK.

2/22 I've long suspected my PM to be very very stupid. In fact I think
most PMs are. My suspicion is confirmed by the study:
        http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17279961
"Meetings make us dumber, study shows"
\_ I've long suspected anonymous motd posters to make arguments with
gaping logical flaws. My suspicion is concerned by the OP. -dans
\_ I've long suspected signed motd posters to make arguments with
gaping logical flaws. My suspicion is concerned by the OP.
[errors left in to reinforce point]
\_ Forest. Trees. Humor. Meditate upon these words. -dans
\_ This is intended as irony?
\_ No, my original response to the OP was. -dans

2/22 How come when I create a file in my home dir (e.g. /usr/bin/touch), the
timestamp of the file is always 1-2 min. ahead of the current time?
This doesn't happen when I create a file in /tmp. Thanks.
\_ its using the time of the nfs server, which is evidently out of
           time sync with soda.
\_ soda's clock is almost 2 minutes behind right now.
              ntp anyone?
