Unemployment Rate Hits 5 1/2 Year Low at 4.4 Percent as
        Economy Adds 92,000 Jobs
\_ See? Trickle-down economy works. Tax cut works.
\_ The current unemployment numbers are totally cooked. According
to the Economist, if unemployment today was measured the way
that it was in the 70s, current unemployment would be 7%.
I prefer to use overall employment, since it is harder to
manipulate, and that is down over the last two years about
           two percent.
\_ How were they calculated in the 70s vs today and when did
it change? 7% is still pretty good.
\_ No, we want to socialize everything like the Europeans,
Canadians because that way our unemployment goes up!
\_ How were they calculated in the 70s vs today and when
did it change? 7% is still pretty good.

11/2 When I was young, there were those kids who you called stupid but
they were just too stupid to recognize when they were being called
stupid. You know, stupidity - if you avoid it and grow a brain,
you'll do well for yourself. If you don't, you get stuck being
        Republican.
\_ This is stupid and so are you.

11/3 Negative ads are extremely effective:
        http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15549677
\_ no news there. always have been, that's why they're used even
though the voters have been saying for decades they're turned
           off by negative campagning.
2006/11/4-6 [Transportation/Car, Transportation/Car/Hybrid] UID:45160 Activity:kinda low
11/04 Does anyone know why the new 4 cyl non-hybrid Accord (which really
kicks ass by the way) sounds very different than all the Accords
before that? I've had 3 Accords in the past and all of them have
the distinctive engine start sound lasts 300-400ms at a pretty
        high pitch (chichichichichi-vrooom). However when I startup a 2006
Accord, the crank sound has a much lower pitch and lasts about 1
        sec to 1.5 sec (didoo-didoo-didoo-didoo-didoo-didoo-didoo-
vroooOOOOOOOOMMMMMmmmmmm....) It doesn't startup like any of
        the old Accords. What's up?
\_ Different starter apparently. Is that an issue?
\_ Not really. I'm used to hearing the distinctive Accord sound
and now the new Accord engine sounds like any other engine
out there, and I miss it dearly. Oh well.
\_ "Any other engine"? They all have unique sounds. You just
don't recognize them, because you owned an Accord. My
Lexus has a 'Toyota' sound. My BMW has a 'BMW' sound. So
now Accord has a new sound. So what? I owned an Accord
for 11 years and I know the sound. Why should anyone care
                 that it changed?
\_ Like I said it does NOT matter I just
miss it for sentimental reasons, you
                    dumb fuck.
\_ Whoa there. Be patient with dim wits.
\_ Yeah. So why the fuck should *WE* care and why
do you want to know *WHY* it sounds different if
                       it doesn't matter.

11/04 "Back in '76 many American V8s were struggling to put out 140
        horses." Dang, old cars suck.
        http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=46009
\_ Yes, and many V8s were powering muscle cars and putting
           out 500 HP.
\_ My first car was a 120hp Ford LTD V6 (not Crown Vic) Go go V6 power!

11/03 I overheard this quote from NPR which I thought is amusing:
"'Terror' is a tactic. To say today's war is a war on 'Terror'
is just like saying World War 2 is a war on 'Blitzkrieg.'"
\_ Sounds pretty logical to me.
\_ The US should stick with wars that have a definite
win condition. You can't win a war against a non proper noun.

11/04 Notre Dame sucks. Got killed by a not-that-great Michigan team.
Should've gotten killed by Michigan State, if it weren't for their
terrible head coach. Should've lost to mediocre UCLA. Not looking
dominant against a bad North Carolina team. Allowed the worst
Stanford team in history to hang around for a while. And yet, due
to a weak schedule, this crappy Notre Dame team, even if they lose
to USC, will probably end up in a BCS game. Nice.
\_ How is Michigan not-that-great? Compared to whom? Cal? OSU?
           \_ Compared to Ball State.

11/04 I'm shocked, SHOCKED!
        Neil Patrick Harris comes out:
        http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/11/04/doogie.ap/index.html
\_ No way, man. NPH would never do that.
        \_ "I'm tripping balls."
\_ Gee, this ranks right up there with Rosie O'Donnell announcing she's
a lesbian in terms of super surprises. Next, you'll tell me that
           Lance Bass is gay.
\_ First Ellen, then Rosie, George^WSulu, Lance, now Doogie!

11/04 Ted Haggard dismissed from church for "sexually immoral conduct"
        http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061105/ap_on_re_us/haggard_sex_allegations
\_ So do we hate the Church for firing him for being gay or do we
hate him for being a hypocrite/liar and we're glad he got fired?

11/4 Borat the movie, recommended or not?
        \_ It's awesome. rottentomatoes agrees.
\_ So-so. As you might expect, the interview-type parts are great,
but some of the more story-driven stuff lags.
\_ There are a few absolutely insane really funny bits that I can't
describe without ruining it for you.

11/04 Do people still want Joe Ayoob back in as QB? See motd from sept.
\_ As if anyone here remembers any single obscure motd entry from two
months ago that doesn't have to do with Dems vs. GOP or renters
           vs. homeowners. Dolt.
\_ Someone claimed that Nate Longshore was worse than Joe Ayoob,
"Cal's worst quarterback ever." Cal is off to its best start in
               (?) decades.
\_ Someone claimed that Nate Longshore was worse than Joe
