10/21 More evidence of Bush Administration War Crimes revealed:
http://www.csua.org/u/h9x (news.yahoo.com)
\_ War Crimes is what the winners do to the losers.
\_ I don't see any evidence of war crimes on that page. Let
me know when your FOIA request turns up the Haliburton
contract for building "showers" in gitmo that includes a
cost savings provision based on the fact they will be
using pows as slave labor.
\_ So the defense of Bush's misdeeds has moved from "he's
better than Saddam" to "he's better than Hitler."
Interesting.
\_ Abuse of Power != War Crime. Maybe he has abused
the power of the Presidency, maybe he hasn't; but
whatever he has done, I just don't see it rising
to the level of a war crime.
to the level of a war crime. I think that calling
the President's actions war crimes serves only to
stifle real debate over administration's handling
of the WOT.
\_ As opposed to saying "Bush is totally better than
Hitler!!!!1", which fosters mature debate? Come on.
No, I'm not OP, and no I have not used the word "war
crime".
\_ You "just don't see it" but others, including the
USSC and Alberto Gonzalez, did. Looks like your
position is the weaker one. There is a law in the US,
called the "War Crimes Act" that forbids grave
breaches of the Geneva Convention. The USSC just
ruled the prisons at Gitmo are covered under
Art 3 of the Geneva Convention. Was the torture
described in the article a "grave breach"? I am not
sure, and I guess you must be some kind of expert
on International Law to be so sure that is not.

10/21 Any review on Clint Eastwood's yet another film about Iwojima?
Does it say anything negative about the evil "Japs" and how
glorious our fathers were?
\_ The Fresh Air review made it sound more like a stark portrayal of
the inanities of pro-war propaganda even in war-time.
\_ You do realize this is actually a psuedo two-part movie. The other
one is called Letters from Iwo Jima, telling the story from the
Japanese side.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0498380
\_ Then how come none of the trailers or posters say anything
about, "Part 1 of 2" or "The First Chapter in the Iwo Jima
Saga" or something like that?
\_ http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/iwojima-movies/trailer/large.html
The last few seconds does mention Letter from Iwo Jima as the
counterpart of this movie. The three big Japanese characters
in the screen before is "Soshite" which means "and. BTW I'm
surprised that Flags of our Fathers are showing in Japan. I
thought people and the govt in Japan are very sensitive to
WWII issues. -- !PP
\_ I didn't know it's a two-sided movie(s). I wasn't going to see
Flags of our Fathers, but now I will. I haven't seen a two-sided
movie since Tora Tora Tora. -- !OP |

10/21 From the the Fall 2006 Forefront:
"In response to Dean Newton's message [spring 2006], the world is
indeed 'flat.' But Friedman is wrong about our technological and
economic preeminence being in jeorpardy because more degrees are coming
out of Asia. Every engineer with a degree tries to develop a product
that makes life better or makes millions of dollars. I was able to do
this even without a degree, so we shouldn't feel threatened."
