8/6 Duh. Just as I thought. France and the U.S. slog out a UN resolution they both can agree to, but oops, someone forgot to ask Lebanon! http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/08/06/mideast.main/index.html \_ So what. Since when do we ever ask anyone's permission before doing anything? -proud American |

8/5 Silly dpkg question. When I do "dpkg -l" and pipe it to less or grep, it cuts off at 80 columns and I'm unable to see the complete package name. How do I see the entire column name? Secondly, some packages are tagged as "rc" instead of "ii", how do I remove the "rc" packages from the dpkg list? Thanks. \ Hit the escape key, dufus. -computer genius \_ Hit Control+Alt+Delete. Try it a couple times. -proud American |

8/5 I just want to take this fine opportunity and say, FUCK sendmail. It is difficult to configure and its debugging facility totally blows. I can't believe how braindead sendmail config is, not to mention its sucky security. Fuck sendmail, use postfix instead. I got postfix running in a jiffy and I didn't even have to go through 800 pages of sendmail manpage. Fuck sendmail and its braindead author. Praise thy new MTA master, postfix. \_ You are way out of line, buddy. <DEAD>-Sendmail.com<DEAD> \_ oh yes, please fuck me! i need you inside me -sendmail |

8/5 In pine, how do you select all the messages in a folder and then add it to another folder? \_ Section 11 of the following URL: http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/mail/pine-imapssl.html \_ ; (select) A (all) A (apply...) S (save) \_ Try Q. -proud American \_ BTW If you get the error message "Command ';' not defined for this screen," you will need to enable the Select feature. To enable the "Select" feature in Pine, type "M" for Main Menu, then "S" for Setup, and "C" for Config. Type "W" for WhereIs, and enter "aggregate" as the word to find. This will bring you to the option named "enable-aggregate-command-set." Type "X" to Set this option, then "E" to Exit Setup. Type "Y" to commit the changes. This will bring you back to the Main Menu. Type "I" to access your inbox's Message Index, and then ";". \_ http://www.fas.harvard.edu/computing/kb/kb0869.html As the previous poster said, type ";" for Criteria. You will be prompted to choose from the Select criteria listed at the bottom of the window. For instance, to select all messages from jharvard, type ";" for Select, "T" for Text, "F" for From, and then "jharvard". The messages that have bee n selected will have an "X" next to them. \_ That didn't work for me. -newbie |

8/6 Blatantly doctored photo of Beirut on yahoo news: http://news.yahoo.com/photo/060805/ids_photos_ts/r3101797657.jpg \_ 404 \_ Hmm, they took it down. It was a Reuters photo, there are small cropped versions here. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3286966,00.html \_ Here's a link to the first draft: http://csua.org/u/gmj \_ A detailed column about it: http://csua.org/u/gmk \_ After this, Reuters is no longer accepting work from that photographer. It's stupid, because the altered image actually doesn't add anything besides looking fake: \_ Reuters is no longer accepting work from that photographer. It's stupid, because the altered image actually doesn't add anything besides looking fake: http://www.leftandright.us/index.php/site/reuters_faking_photos \_ That is a totally bogus assertion. How dare you accuse someone of doctoring, altering, or spinning something to further a political agenda?!? -Michael Moore & Ann Coulter \_ Of course there's no difference between two paid political hacks making big bucks being annoying and a news service used around the world that is supposed to have "journalistic integrity", but I wouldn't expect a motd troll to "get" this. \_ Oh, like when Michael Moore suggested that the best way to deal with a conservative is with a baseball bat, or when Michael Moore endoresed the assasination of public figures he dissagreed with? Oh, wait, that never happened. I hate Michael Moore, but you, sir, are a fucking idiot. \_ What does MM have to do with Reuters spreading Hezbollah propaganda verbatim? Nothing. I was going to ask wth you're talking about but it really doesn't matter. Carry on with your nuttitude. \_ What is your definition of "spreading"? When is a full retraction and apology enough? \_ The same definition as everyone else uses. A full retraction and apology is quaint and some what cute. How about they stop serving up Hezbollah propaganda as unvarnished truth and actually, ya know, maybe investigate something and stop showing severe bias? Then they'd have nothing to apologise for. Trust is earned, not granted and they've blown it big time on more than one occasion. |
