7/12 Edith Delgado, the Redwood City teenager who single-handedly stemmed democratic reforms in the island kingdom of Tonga. http://www.csua.org/u/geo (http://www.matangitonga.to Neither http://images.google.com nor http://images.yahoo.com found this photo. \_ So you can kill royal family members and go to jail for only 8 years? Automobiles-- the best instrument for murder. \_ I think there's this little issue of intent. Without intent, it's not technically murder. OTOH, if you try to run down someone with your car with clear intent to hit them, that's a whole different ball park. \_ Stemmed? Perhaps stymied would be closer to the truth.... \_ she's already dead.. just a matter of time a couple of samoans approach her if they find her.. \_ the pic is from her myspace profile, which appears to have been shut down \_ I thought Americans are pro-democracy. \_ Yup, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Russia... all of them are fine example of democracy. \_ Going 100mph with a five-month old license. What a bitch. (I'm not saying experience drivers can go 100mph.) saying experienced drivers can go 100mph.) saying experienced drivers can go 100mph, though.) \_ I don't know the details, but from the description, it sounds like it should have been a survivable crash. I guess Ford Explorers suck. \_ And Mustangs totally kick ass. \_ Well it sounded like she just sideswiped the Explorer, which then swerved and rolled. I wonder how fast it was going. Not excusing the idiot girl in any way btw... \_ Incidentally, both Explorers and Mustangs are Ford. \_ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1593640188/sr=8-7/qid=1152754629/ref=sr_1_7/104-0932206-6103116?ie=UTF8 \_ http://csua.org/u/gev \_ please stop putting up fotos of fat girls, ok thx. \_ She's got boobs. |

7/13 Is mail working? Neither incoming nor outgoing mail seems to be working. I've received no email (not even spam) since last night. And outgoing mail doesn't seem to be working (or at least it's delayed more than a couple minutes). I think there are about 50K messages in the queue... -ax \_ Is the queue being unqueued. soda's been up for 3 hours and I haven't received a single email. I normally get a few per hour, including spam. \_ soda uses sendmail, right? sendmail isn't running... -ax \_ Forgive me if it's a stupid question, but why not? Is something not working, or did someone just forget to turn it on? \_ No one knows, we are all waiting for root to start it back up. -ax \_ In the words of Ted Stevens ("internet expert"): The internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big tr uck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand that those tubes can be filled, and if they're filled when you put your message in it, it gets in line, it's gonna be delayed by anyone who puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material. Ten movies streaming across that that, inte rnet, and what happens to your own across that that, internet, and what happens to your own personal internet? I...just the other day, got internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday, I got it yesterday. Why? \_ root installed clamav after being told by SNS to do something about the stream of virus laden email from soda or have network access blocked. clamav/MTA interaction fucked up soda around midnight. mikeh was nice enough to reboot soda while in the machine room doing other things for work. he was also nice enough to turn sendmail and clamav off so that soda would stay up without getting it's network access turned off. i should note that it was an alumni (not me) who set up virus scanning for soda, not any of the undergraduates. --Jon \_ Bottom line - mail broken? \_ Why no incoming mail? \_ Err... why is there a stream of virus-laden email coming from soda? \_ because its running debian inside of vmware on w2k3 \_ think .forward/procmail |

7/12 Kchang -- thanks for turning the search feature back on! \_ you're welcome. I spent some time making sure that even if the mysql passwords are stolen, it would only have read only access. It would have been easier with suexec, but I guess the current admins insist that CGIs run as "nobody", which is a security risk that I guess they just don't care about anymore. -kchang \_ Intellidiff is back too! Thanks! -Intellidiff #1 fan \_ It is broken. I use scp to edit but it blames someone else. Yet another useless program written by someone useless. |

7/12 http://www.newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/news/people/features/6280/index.html How did an Orthodox Jewish lawyer and family man fall so hard for a Scores stripper that he invited her to his kids' bar mitzvahs? \_ this is from Aug 2002? Is this apropos of anythign in in particular?? \_ Sounds like a story for link:ihatestrippers.com \_ Is going to strip clubs really that common a business practice? \_ Unless you're gay or a religious person, yes. That's how the world works to close big deals. No string sex or no deal, take your pick. \_ I read the article and noticed that it's incredibly similar to a Law & Order CI rerun that I watched recently, right down to the really small details (except there was a murder involved in the tv show). Is it legal for a show to take a story like this and make it into an episode? can they still claim that "any similarity to persons living or dead" is just a coincidence? |

It would have been "Mike C.Litoris". \_ Do you sta-stutter? \_ Umm.. Mike Litoris == "My Clitoris" say it out loud. \_ ]finger beavis finger: beavis: no such user. Are you using an alias of some kind, Beavis? \_ $finger cornholio \_ Is it from The Simpsons? |

7/12 http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/12/world/12cnd-diplo.html "Russia and China Support Sanctions Threat for Iran" What I call "sloppy sanctions", as predicted six weeks ago, in an eventual deal that would benefit everyone but the U.S. \_ They support "sanctions threat" or actual sanctions? \_ threat. all i'm saying is, with all of their playing hard to get on sanctions, when we actually "get" them to apply sanctions, the terms of the sanctions will be so sloppy that they'll get everything they want. \_ remember, US has economic embargo against Iran already, so UN sanction is not going to hurt US any more. China and Russia, OTOH, has huge trade relationship with Iran and literally hundreds of millions at stake. Further, Iran supplies something like 15-18% of oil to China. China is not going to do anything against its oil supplier, just like US is not going to wage War on Terror against Saudi's. |

7/12 I'm very mechanically inclined and I've been able to clean my front and back shifters, as well as installing and adjusting indexed derailleurs (I'm familiar with the HI/LO screws). Are there other reasons why I should pay $45 to my local bike shop, or $75 to REI to get a "tune-up"? \_ No. -tom \_ what about for true'ing his wheels? \_ Bike shops tend to do a shitty job of truing wheels; I'm sure REI is worse. And it's not like it's rocket science; when you tighten a spoke, the rim moves towards that spoke, and you want spoke tensions to be roughly equal (for rear wheels, roughly equal relative to other spokes on the same side of the wheel). -tom \_ Thanks tom, I feel the same as well. I spent $50 for some guy to tune my bike thinking that he'd make it all nice again. Turns out that he adjusted the brake badly (one side of the brake-pad was favored by a lot over the other one), an easy job that I could have done myself in 5 minutes. Pretty much the only thing that he did was cleaning and lubbing the chains, which IMHO, I could have done a much better job cleaning, and pumping the tires. So actually, I have no idea why everyone tells me that I should go to a mechanic to get my bike tuned. No mechanic cares about his job as much as I care about my bike. $50 down the drain, live and learn. \_ Why do you hate REI? I've only had one experience with their bike mechanics, but it was overwhelmingly positive. I broke down a ways from home, and had just been refused help at any price from the little snot at the local independently owned bike shop, and I walked down the street to REI and go the problem fixed in minutes for five bucks. Anecdotal? Yes. But I've never heard anecdotal evidence that they suck either. |
