5/6 Lame question: does anyone know how to get ntpd to add 10 mins to
the acutal time (w/o a src change)?
        \_ what, Berkeley Standard Time?
\_ I like to set my clocks ahead by 10 mins, and I wanted to
know if I could do that w/ my computer.
\_ If you really want to do this, just make up your own time zone
that's ten minutes off from PST/PDT: setenv TZ PPST7:50PPDT
                 --mconst
              \_ you're a moron.

5/6 MIT Time Travel Conference:
        http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/06/national/06time.html
\_ You should go/have gone. We will have/had a great time. Even HG
           Wells will make/made an appearance.
\_ well you can always travel back in time to make it.
\_ Well, see you in the past, folks!
\_ Well, see you guys in the past!
\_ I showed up, but they weren't letting any more people into
the conference hall. Got to see the countdown at the (much to
small) landing pad though. The smoke machine was a little hokie,
but the milk and cookies that someone had left was a nice touch.
           --darin
\_ Nobody from the future came because they already knew the party
           sucked.
\_ I predict that in the future MIT will not be a place of choice for
              parties.
\_ We should try this again, but at CSU Chico instead. -tom
\_ Yeah, SF is the place of choice for parties. Why else
would they build Starfleet Academy there?
\_ If I had to bet money on the Bay Area of the distant future,
I'd put my money on the Philip K. Dick square, not the
                    Gene Rodenbery square.

5/6 Just curious what's the upper bound on the number of flash drive
read/write before the sector fails? Is it 10^10? 10^20? ??
What about floppies, and HD? Just curious.
\_ For flash drives it's around 10^4-10^5 IIRC.
\_ What about Secure Digital (SD) cards?
\_ Same technology as flash drives. 'Secure' refers to DRM support.

5/6 Read on for an all-geek, all-tech, all-boring, no fun motd! Thank you

5/6 Awhile back I asked if anybody knew a place where one could rent
game consoles. Nobody responded with a useful answer. So, if
anybody else care, Silver Screen on Grand rents PS2s, XBoxes and game
        cubes.

5/6 Does Mac OS X have a destructive badblocks test on the install media?
\_ Yes, both for the HD and the install cd. -scottyg
            \_ Great! Where?
                \_ run hdutils?
                       \_ hdutils: command not found
