3/12 So when are they going to catch this guy? From how it sounds, he took the Grand Theft Auto strategy and won't be killing himself; he sounds determined and focused, and wants to survive. Jury foreman: "He seemed like a pretty logical, intelligent, articulate person." Neighbor: "He walked around with no T-shirt, and didn't come off as a 9-to-5 guy. Some of the women liked him, but I didn't trust him at all." http://CNN.com: He was accused of binding his ex-girlfriend -- an executive at a Fortune 500 company -- with duct tape and assaulting her over a three-day period last fall. ... Nichols had claimed the sex was consensual. His first trial began two weeks ago, but ended in a hung jury. ... Nichols' last known job was as a computer technician for a subsidiary of UPS. Prosecutor: "I really believe that this was a random situation. This is not a defendant who has demonstrated violence in the past. The violence in his past was specific to his victim." \_ Already have: http://reuters.myway.com/article/20050312/2005-03-12T165131Z_01_N12307752_RTRIDST_0_NEWS-CRIME-SHOOTING-ATLANTA-DC.html http://tinyurl.com/5zd3k (reuters.myway.com) \_ Yeah, I thought he would go to a friend's house. He would have needed to have surfaced to buy food if he really slept in his car. Guess he gave up. |

3/12 Biggest prediction of 2005. Michael Jackson will commit suicide before the trial is over. -Oracle #1 \_ It's not a really big prediction, since drudgereport already scooped you by two or three days. |

3/12 SUV as public nuisance: http://www.suv.org/safety.html SUV drivers cause more fatalities per mile than drivers of other vehicles. They are a safety risk to other drivers on the road, almost the textbook example of a nuisance. 1. nuisance -- ((law) a broad legal concept including anything that disturbs the reasonable use of your property or endangers life and health or is offensive) \_ Yes most people know they're evil. Tell that to our governator and our oil loving politicians, I'm sure they'll be sympathetic and do something about it. Yeah. \_ The key phrase is "use of your property", that means real property (land) not chattels such as cars. Products liability actions against manufacturers of SUVs by people injured in accidents w/ SUVs is more promising. |

3/12 If you or anybody you know took EE 123 here in Fall 1993, could you email me? Specifically interested in that course, that semester only (long story). -alexf@cs (yes, very random question, but the motd is the only place I can think of where I'd have even a tiny chance of finding someone who did) |

3/12 Who says Microsoft is all that evil [red]? http://www.choosetheblue.com/mainFrame.php?prodcat=Video+Games Also, I'm definitely going to stop eating at Outback Steakhouse: http://www.choosetheblue.com/mainNoFrame.php?special=outback And here's why the blue loses. Almost all food/grocery stores are Red, while almost all computer software and tech are blue. The reddies don't have to (and are too stupid) to use computers, but the blues can't survive without eating. |

3/12 Woe is me. Legs too short. Someone recommend me a tailor that hems pants for cheap?! Berk/Oak/El Cerrito. Somewhere around here. \_ While I'm not an expert on the matter, 'Jim the Tailor' did a good job taking up the sleves of my wool overcoat for $20. He's just west of Telegraph near Rasputin. \_ There used to be a great Chinese laundry around Shattuck & University where the grumpy, asocial grandmother hanging out in the booth would do excellent alterations for $5-$20. -John \_ I hear you can get your legs made longer at Abu Graib. \_ That's tasteless, I expect better of the motd. |
