8/24 So, any UCLA students know a good place to meet UCLA coeds?
        \_ WWIII and vodka
\_ forget UCLA girls. just go to the bars/clubs.
\_ I'd rather meet college students, but name a good bar/club
where one can meet coeds. I don't want to meet 19 year old
              single moms from El Monte.
\_ oh yeah, kchang and ilyas are hooked in with all the babes
\_ The question can be asked: "Where do UCLA students hang out?"
\_ the Bruin walk is a nice place to socialize. But really
the best way is to participate in activities from the
Wooden Center, where you can play golf for $15 and wind
surf for $20 or take swing dance for only $17 per quarter
(each quarter is 10 weeks). Activities are highly
subsidized by UCLA and they're really really cheap and
usually has a few pretty chicks. If you want to do hard
core sciences and enjoy staying in the computer lab 24x7,
MIT/Caltech/Cal is a great place to go to. But if you want
a well balanced life, UCLA is it -happy ucla student
\_ yeah, I'm sure the 25K+ students at Cal who are not
doing "hard core sciences" all stay in the computer
                      lab 24x7.
\_ Agreed. Most of the non-CS students I knew at Cal
spent the majority of their time getting laid.
This may explain Bitter Berkeley CS Student Sydrome.
\_ It's okay, because although some of them got
JDs and MBAs and are now running your company,
most of them are flipping burgers.
\_ this is so fucking arrogant. Do you know
                            anything about Chemical/Mechnical Engineering?
Have you taken any of music theory/harmony/
counterpoint classes? There are plenty of
                            demanding courses/majors on campus.
\_ Yeah, but we all know the ChemE people were
having mass orgies during "FORTRAN labs".
\_ It's all about the GPA. If you are willing to
settle for C's, you can find the free time to
date plenty of hotties. And my time at Cal
was more productive than any other.
\_ Face down. In the gutter.

8/25 So Felicien of Canada knocked down Shevchenko of Russia in 100m hurdle.
What's going to happen to them next?
        \_ WWIII and vodka
        \_ All-out cat fight
\_ One circle, two women, 100 pounds of prepared Jello.
           \_ Rock the casbah.
\_ Can you say "Tonya Harding?"
\_ But Harding didn't hurt Kerrigan at the expense of her own
                 chance of winning a medal.
\_ Once people knew what happened, do you really think
there was any way she could have won one?
\_ Harding didn't intend to let the public know, did she?

up both planes with cell-phone bombs. Called cell-phone bombs ~ 11pm.
I don't buy simultaneous equipment failure.
        \_ WWIII and vodka
\_ Asked airport for altitude of ground, airport gave them the wrong
           number.
\_ You mean altitude of the airport? How's that relevant?
\_ He means altitude of the ground below the plane.
\_ I believe the word you're looking for is "hypothesis."
\_ I believe the term you want is Crackpot Wingnut Conspiracy Theory
\_ That's Crackpot Wingnut Conspiracy HYPOTHESIS
\_ Take more English 1A, less CS. Thanks.
\_ Your theory assumes Russia has good cell phone coverage. -- misha.
           \_ D'oh!
\_ Cell phones have alarm functions. No need to call.
\_ Then why not just an alarm clock trigger.
\_ You're right, that was used in the Spain bombings.

\_ The politburo never contacted me about my behavior being a
problem. If they do, I will bring up what others are doing, and
I am sure we can come up with some compromise that will make

8/25 About the whole 527 thing. Your opinions: If Bush directly addressed
the swift boat group and asked them to stop, would that violate the
law? Would the Kerry campaign then claim it violated the law?
        \_ Violate what law?
           \_ Just a WAG, but Section 527?
\_ Uh.. How and why? Bush is an imbecile for not having condemned
           them immediately. Big political blunder.
\_ Right... Kerry is sinking and it's just going to get worse.
Kerry can't even handle the Swifties, how would he plan
to handle the terrorists? Ask the UN to rule them illegal?
\_ Sinking? Have you even looked at the recent polls?
\_ Wow, how many times do you intend to censor my replies

Once, anyone could have done, even by mistake.
Twice is a coincidence. The third time, I knew
you were just trying to run from the subject.
\_ LOL you have the wrong person. Get over

\_ A blunder only among you and your ultra left friends. Get
              out more. Talk to moderates.
\_ Most moderates believe Kerry. The whole Swift Boat thing
has hurt Bush's standing with swing voters. It was only
red meat for Republicans, who have a pyschological need
to justify voting for AWOL coward over a war hero.
to justify voting for an AWOL coward over a war hero.
\_ Where as Democrats do it because that's what they
                    prefer.
\_ Well, yes that is true actually.
\_ Well, yes that is true actually. -liberal
\_ Yea you have the John Stewart demographic covered.
\_ No candidate is allowed to directly address/contact a 527 for
any reason, pro or con. It is against the law, period. Kerry
contacted the SBVs and yes that was a violation of the law.
\_ I really doubt that "contacting" them via the media while
condemning their message would hold water. Remember we
have a First Amendment still mostly intact left.
\_ Um, no we don't. McCain-Feingold gutted it (or when the
SCOTUS ruled on it that officially gutted it).
                 \_ Oh, please.  Freedom of Speech is still alive and well;
conflicts of interest, however, are finally not being
                    tolerated.
\_ File a lawsuit then claiming that the Kerry campaign
violated the law by contacting the SBVFT then and
watch it laughed out of court. It doesn't even pass
the smell test and you know it. Or at least you

hatred. "They're always trying to kill us so we must be bad
              people". Something like that.
\_ I met a Jewish Nazi skinhead once. I kid you not. At a Chateau
Party. I am still trying to figure that one out.
\_ that's still not as ironic as the black white supremacist.
\_ Well maybe he kid you.
\_ I hope so. He was hanging out with another azzhole wearing
a "Screwdriver" t-shirt, so I don't think so, but maybe
it was all some kind of sophisticated joke that I
                    didn't get.
\_ I'm Jewish? That's news to me! -op
              \_ You're not sure if you're Jewish?
\_ *shrug* All I'm saying is that lots of Jewish liberals hate
                 Bush, too.
\_ Nazis. I hate these guys.

8/25 Did ilyas get so upset that he broke The Net?
\_ The motd rarely upsets me, I am not very emotionally invested in it,
thank God. However, out of all the bad choices available to me, I
think retaliation is best. Talk to people who munge the motd or
let the topic die already. -- ilyas
\_ As with most self-described libertarians, "responsibility for
your own actions" is just another empty catchphrase.
\_ Are you slow or something? I sign my name, I own what I say,
and what I do. Nor do I think it wrong. I am tired of
saying the same thing over and over again. Motd is
publicly writable. If you fuck with people's posts, it will
                 become boring fast. -- ilyas

8/25 Which map web sites give you GPS information, and can you convert
GPS information to X/Y for plotting purpose? ok thx
\_ Better yet, which map web sites give you longitude and latitude
so you can figure these things out universally?

8/25 Why are field hockey sticks so short? Was the length determined
way back when people were shorter?
\_ Yes. When field hockey was invented, the average height was about
           4'5".

8/25 Does anyone know of any good way of donating software that is no
longer being used? E.g. I have an old copy/license/manual of
Oracle 8 for NT. I was going to just toss it, but I thought I'd
check first to see if it could be used anywhere? (I imagine that
newer versions of free databases might be better already, but I'm
interested in the answer since I have other CDs/products that I
could also get rid of). Thanks!
\_ I wouldn't inflict Oracle 8 on my worst enemy, but that's just me.
\_ The licenses for commercial software are usually non-transferable.
As for Oracle, anyone seriously considering using it for production
should buy a support contract which probably also entitles them to
the latest versions of the software anyways while the developers
already have free or almost free access to the Oracle software for
           development and testing purposes.
\_ Thanks for the info! - OP
           \_ http://www.accrc.org should take it.
\_ When I wanted to get rid of my NetWare 4.0, I just dropped it off
at the dropbox of a public library. Don't know what they'll do
           about it.
