5/18 Is there a way to find out information about your doctor, like history,
school where he got the MD from, malpractice, lawsuits, etc? Question
2, can you request information from the hospital, like lab results,
x-ray, injection used during the surgery, etc? any help would be
        appreciated.
\_ For #2, if you mean *your* medical records then of course!
\_ Sounds like you need to call a lawyer.
        \_ 1: State Medical Board. http://www.medbd.ca.gov
\_ I second the website for state medical board. You can check your
doctor online. You can also call the medical board of CA and talk
to someone live. You also have every right to all your medical
records. With new HIPAA laws, though, you will probably have to
fill out a request form, or otherwise put a letter in writing
requesting specified medical records. I make it a habit to
check all my doctors, and I keep a copy of significant medical
records (like for surgeries) for myself. Not a bad idea these
           days. --chris

5/19 Screenshots of George Lucas's latest SW changes:
        http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html
\_ What a crappy Photoshop job.
\_ Someone please kill Lucas before he gets any stupider.
\_ It reminds me of the line from "Six Degrees of Separation". Any
child can make art as great as Matisse. You just have to know when
to take the paper away from them. -- ulysses
\_ wtf is frodo baggins doing in the screenshot?
\_ Pretending to be Annakin Skywalker?
\_ Here's a theory, Myabe Lucas actually is so sick and tired of
Star Wars that he's decided to Ruin it so people will stop
           bugging him about it.
\_ My theory: Lucas is just an idiot surrounded by yes-men.

\_ MOS 7? Yeah MSDOS is on flash too, so?
        \_ That's excellent.
\_ Is there one for Apple ][+?
\_ Fuck that, I want to upgrade my Lisa!
        \_ Useless.
\_ That would be so much cooler if it were _actually_ a Mac emulator
           in Flash.
\_ So write it yourself, twink.
\_ It's useless. Why would he bother?

5/19 How do I deal with multiple potential gf?
        \_ Dating advice on motd?
\_ Post their name, pic url , and contact here.
        \_ try before you buy.
\_ But I am weak in the conscious department,
I can't get myself to do it without feeling too guilty.
\_ How is this not conscientious? Lots of people date around
before committing to a person. Just because you go on
a date doesn't mean you married them.
a date doesn't mean you married them. Some people draw
the line at sex though, but that's up to each party.
\_ If you are in a semi-vegetative state, how are you going to
                 satisfy even a single mate?
\_ Modern dating has gotten really screwed up. You're supposed to
try out a lot of different people with a date or two before you
commit to one. That's the IDEA. Think of it as a friendly job
           interview.
\_ But where do you draw the line? You don't take multiple
job offers. But sometimes after getting a job offer, you
still want to see if you can get that google job, but you
don't know if google actually want you. If google doesn't
want you, then you will take this offer, after all, one
needs a job. But does this really apply to dating? Although
employers also have multiple candidates lined up, they don't
send out multiple offers at the same time.
\_ Didn't you just answer your own question? You don't make
multiple commitments. Duh. I would say don't sleep with
them either, but I say that goes till your married.
\_ true story. a friend of mine had a phone interview at google.
the interviewer was an asshole and he didn't get a real
interview. a few months later he gets a job at a web company.
two days after he starts work he gets a call from google.
someone saw his master's thesis and they want to hire him. he
quits his job and goes and works at google and has been very
happy ever since. it's a true story, but you can think of it
as a dating parable if you so desire.
\_ so you should write lots of erotic stories and post them
around on the net in the hopes of attracting some
                    random attractive female fan?
\_ I've interviewed at google twice. The second time I was
there for almost 8 hours and correctly answered a long
list of random and obscure questions from half the
engineering staff. Idiot head recruiter will only say I
was "not a good technical fit" when I was teaching their
people several things they didn't know during the
interview process. I think google interviews are just
                    free training for their staff.
\_ deal? gf != wife. Date all of them. Until you "get serious" and
have some official "we're going steady and not fucking other people"
agreement, you can do what you want. Do you really think all of
them are having sex only with you and not 'dating' others? Don't
be so naive. Not only are girls out there fucking multiple guys
(and often other girls too) but plenty of them have STDs and know
it and don't care if they dose you.
\_ Party girls won't care if you date multiple ppl. Otherwise,
cowboy up and choose one. If yer a party guy, why would you
           care, anyways?
\_ Figure out where you draw the line. Two girls at once, it's ok to:
           - go out for coffee
           - social activities / parties
           - go out to dinner
           - kiss
           - 2nd, 3rd base ?
\_ what does 2nd and 3rd base mean?
\_ 2nd: Putting your arm around her shoulders at the movies
                   3rd: Holding hands
           - have sex with
           - marry
Decide which checkboxes would make you feel guilty (or perhaps make
your potential dates jealous) and try not to cross those lines.
\_ if you're up front about it? all of the above sound fine. I've
seen multiple marriage work just fine.
\_ If you're honest about it, do whatever you feel comfortable
with. In the absence of complete disclosure, do no more than
the other person might expect you to.
\_ If you choose multi-dating, either you have to lie to your dates or
you have to put up with their own multi-dating. The difficulty of
lying is exponential in its duration and the number of dates. If
you consent to their multi-dating, remember that the tunnels of
love you crawl in and out of are shared by strangers with diverse
odors and fluid viscosity: you will be bathing yourself in public
toilets. As you savor the sparkling dew from one of their treasured
orifices, do you stop to wonder which of your fellow suitors
           secreted such delightful nectar?
\_ Just because you're only dating one girl doesn't mean you're the
only guy (or girl) she is sleeping with. My favorite is the
(very) large number of colleg girls who sleep with other girls
and honestly don't believe they are cheating because "it isn't
real sex". You can still get a long list of STDs from your
girl friend's girl friend. OTOH, if you're fucking both of them,
either at the same or different times then it's share and share
              alike anyway.
\_ Having a single girl does not mean she will make reciprocal
arrangement, but having more and tell them so will most
surely engender reciprocity if they stay. Unless your
relationship is platonic or your date far outfoxes you,
it is hard not to figure out whether she has other gigolos.
\_ Who the FUCK deleted this thread?
\_ Yeah, this was the only halfway interesting thing here.

\_ Pick any random group of 40 Iraqis and at least one of them will
probably advocate the violent ouster of the US, but does that
make it OK to kill the whole wedding party?

\_ This is tragic. And it's also another reason to not shoot a gun in

\_ Didn't the exact same thing happen in Afghanistan several months
              ago?
\_ Yes. Shouldn't people have figured out that firing guns
into the air is a bad idea when your country is being occupied
                 by a foreign army? -geordan
\_ It would be nice if some people in this country would figure
                    this out as well.
\_ Yeah, but you've got dumb yokels firing guns into the air
to celebrate, and dumb yokels killing an entire wedding
party. There's plenty of blame to share.
\- what would be your reaction if the say LAPD or say
philadelphia PD "rained down gunfire" on a house
from where they saw some shooting into the air?
\_ Wow, that's some of the most twisted logic I've
seen out of you, psb. There's nothing similar
at all between those two situations, and the one
                          in Iraq. Cool.
                          \_ E_TOOSHORT
i'm wondering if the same people making the dumb yokel

                       and waco. --psb
\_ These kind of stuff will not happen in the US because we
have laws. It happened in Iraq because there are no laws
governing what the US military can do. So what if we bombed
your wedding? Tough luck. The worst that can happen is we
offer an apology after a year long investigation. The truth
is, there are no justice when your country is occupied by
someone else. The only justice you'll get is when you drive
out the invading forces one way or the other. But we don't
care, by then we would've gotten all the oil we wanted. The
moral of the story? Don't be the weak guy. The bully is
always right. Although I do wish sometimes the police would
take the same attitude toward those fuckers in Oakland and
East Palo Alto. Just nuke their fucking house and the city
           will be a better place.
\_ oil? please show me some evidence that the U.S. is going to

              iraq.
\_ the deal is, the war is paid for by taxpayers, and the oil
                 revenue goes to Bush's friends.
\_ hmm a wedding party with 2 million dinars, sat com equipment,
and foreign passports in a safehouse. Yea...
Was the same reporter in Jenin?
\_ Why does the US keep lying? Who are they trying to fool?
              \_ The US.
\_ Isn't 2M dinars like $1000 USD? Foreign passports? Imagine
that, on a town bordering another nation during a wedding
celebration where out of town relatives are invited.
\_ About $1400. Yeah. Which was probably part of the wedding
                 gift.
\_ No, see, the administration spends all taxpayers money, and
they as individuals (more accurately their friends and
                 campaign contributors) reap the benefits.

murdered compared falsely to people who are in a war
zone firing hundreds of rounds into the air.
\_ Yes, two years ago. However, the CENTCOM report says that
AAA fire did come from the area (and had been since two days
before), and the responsibility lies with those who operated
the AAA guns while there were civilians in the area.
Although ground forces didn't find evidence of AAA guns or
spent shells, the report says they were probably removed
                  before they could get there.

\_ Terrorists beget terrorists. Iraqi beget Iraqis. What's wrong
with preventing future terorists from coming to this world?

5/19 motdedit2 is available at ~kchang/bin/motdedit2. The difference
between motdedit and motdedit2 is that motdedit2 does not require
a lock and does friendly merge. For example, if you added a line,
say A, and someone deletes it or changes it to B after a few hours,
you can "restore&merge" which will retain both line A & B.
        Restore&merge is done by doing "motdedit2 -r"
\_ Examples of friendly merge using "motdedit2"
        Original Your change: Result:
        -------- ------------ -------
        hello harro hello
        world world harro
                                    world

        \_ Another example of using "motdedit2 -r"
You typed: Someone changed to: You run motdedit2 -r
        ---------- ------------------- --------------------
        hello h3llo hello
        world world sucks world
                                             h3llo
                                             world sucks
\_ I think that's the right thing to be doing. Personally
though I prefer to do the steps separately. I did steal
your merge function to replace the dumb one I was using.
I have it set up pretty well; if I notice someone else's
post get clobbered I can merge that also, because I'm
grabbing a local copy for everything and not just my own
edits. Actually though, having used your merge function
for a while it is a tradeoff... ideally it should attempt
to detect line edits versus new posts.

By the time [the crowd] reached the Zourob intersection, witnesses
said, there were nearly 2,000 people chanting slogans and shouting
"Jihad!" and "God is Great!" At a bend in the road, they spotted an
Israeli tank in the distance and many hesitated, but those in front
kept walking. Some threw stones toward the tank that fell well short
of their target. Suddenly, the tank opened fire, according to
witnesses and survivors. The artillery shell hit an electricity pylon
and detonated, they said, sending razor-sharp fragments of the pylon
and the shell casing mowing through the demonstrators.
\_ Note to self: Don't throw rocks at tanks, Oh wait, I already

5/19 Is it true there haven't been any successful suicide bombers in
Israel since the building of the security barrier?
\_ A very small number. The fence isn't finished yet. The fence is
also not going to reduce the number to zero either. Just reduce
the murder rate to something the EU and UN can continue ignoring.
\_ IMO the israelis should fence off another square km of
'buffer space' territory for every bomber that gets through. If
the Palestinians send enough bombers through to get themselves
pushed into the mediterranean, its their problem.
\_ Where can I get info for this?
\_ There was at least one bombing at a seaport about 2-3 months
ago. There have been a few random rockets/shell fired semi-
randomly into Israeli civilian areas. The 14 year old was
caught wearing a bomb at a check point. Maybe a few others
                 I've forgotten.
\_ I asked about SUCCESSFUL suicide bombers. I know
there was at least one successful conventinal attack,
some dude stopped a lady and her 4 kinds on the road

opinionated bastard and I don't care if he's dead or alive
\_ Not completely accurate (but what biopic is?). Kaufman had an
odder sense of humor than most, but it was wasted on people who
never understood the absurdity of it. In retrospect (and when it
was spelt out for people in MotM), people now appreciate his
brand of humor. Back then though... in terms of today's comics,

5/19 People who support Bush, Cliff notes:
        - Believe Abu Gharaib abuse was not systematic.
        - Believe Saddam needed to be put down at some point, because he had
used WMD in the past and could supply them to terrorists in the
future; and, because Saddam was a vile leader.
        - Fault the CIA for giving Bush the wrong intelligence on WMD.
\_ but this is known to be false. the "mobile labs", the uranium,
blah blah... I don't know what Bush himself has to do with
anything but "the adminstration" definitely chose to disregard
and fail to mention the proper caveats. all intelligence has
varying degrees of certainty and they chose multiple items with
             laughably low probability.
        - Believe the U.S. is giving Iraqis the opportunity for freedom.
        - Believe Bush is always trying to defend the American people, and
support his "strong leader" approach of never apologizing for mistakes
made in the pursuit of that goal, when the enemies of America could
perceive an apology as weakness and proof of the effectiveness of
        terror attacks.
        - Think Kerry would do a worse job as President, since they perceive
him as "political", rather than a "strong leader".
        - Credit Bush for the absence of terrorist attacks on American soil
        since 9/11.
        - Are willing to sacrifice minor personal liberties for a safe
        homeland.
\_ I don't believe this one, and disagree with Bush policies on this
point. A bunch of other ones are phrased in a very dry way
that's hard to agree with also. -- ilyas
\_ There, I put in "minor" personal liberties.
        - Believe in small government, lower taxes, with money saved from
fewer handouts going toward a strong defense.
        - Believe deficit spending will force a smaller government.
\_ I would phrase it as 'deficit spending may be a win economically,
and occasionally deficit spending is necessary for non-economic
             reasons'. -- ilyas
        - Believe Kerry will increase taxes, handouts, and not be able to
secure the U.S. from another terror attack.
        \_ I don't care that Bush is a Christian.
\_ Point taken, I removed it.
\_ The point to this whole list was to show the mindset of a typical
Bush supporter, not saying that any of it is correct or not. -op
