8/15 A short essay on labels in America:

\_ It's really funny that someone would erase a link to an essay
advocating moderation. You guys crack me up! Restored (twice).

8/15 Are there significant C compilers out there that really don't support
        C++ style "//" comments?
\_ No. So whomemever is requiring the use of /* */ only in whatever code
\_ No. So whoever is requiring the use of /* */ only in whatever code
can be safely ignored. The only time you'd limit this is if you are
           stuck on a stove-pipe system.
\_ C99 added '//' comments. The only compilers I know of that might
              have trouble are legacy/embedded compilers.

8/16 Has anyone here ever heard of 'streetlight filters' for telescope
oculars? A colleague of mine claims that most streetlights are
sodium-based, and that it's thus possible to filter out the light
pollution from lamps in the spectrum of street lighting... -John

8/16 I don't have particularly strong opinion about editors and I don't
plan to be an expert of any one, but there seem to be many of that
on the motd. So here is a question for you: why nobody mention
or flame about nedit? I use it when I am using unix and X. It seems to
do most of what I wanted though by no mean not all, but since I don't
know how to make vi or emacs to do all that I wanted either, it seems
fine. Do anybody else use nedit?
