1/31 I find that http://terraserver.microsoft.com is not detailed enough. And
I've been googling for another one. Can't seem to find another free
server that provide satellite photos. I used another service before
a few years back but can't remember the site anymore. Anybody know?
\_ Call your local congressman today, and ask them to approve funding
for the Total Information Awareness program. Soon, the server you
seek will come into existence. Though your access to it may be on
           the 'need to know' basis...
\_ Yermom won't show up on any civilian quality sat. photos.
                \_ Unfortunately, yermom does.
\_ You're thinking of the military quality army boot sats.
\_ No, I'm thinking "Yermom is SO fat ..."
\_ her blood type is "crisco"
\_ TIA program stillborn. Just another random pentagon concept that
              went nowhere.

1/31 A student, in hopes of understanding the Lambda-nature, came to
Greenblatt. As they spoke a Multics system hacker walked by. "Is
it true," asked the student, "that PL-1 has many of the same data
types as Lisp?" Almost before the student had finished his question,
Greenblatt shouted, "FOO!", and hit the student with a stick.
        ---Can someone explain this?!?
\_ Comparing languages on the basis of datatypes is ... silly.
All languages have the same datatypes.
           \_ Okay, explain this one:
A novice was trying to fix a broken Lisp machine by
turning the power off and on. Knight, seeing what
the student was doing, spoke sternly: "You cannot
fix a machine by just power-cycling it with no
understanding of what is going wrong."
Knight turned the machine off and on.
               The machine worked.
\_ He never said you couldn't power cycle if you _do_ know
what's going wrong. *sigh*. You really shouldn't be
reading these, I think they are kind of over your head.
\_ obviously the op agrees that they are over his head
which is why he's asking in the first place.
someone's actually showing interest in your stupid
subculture, and all you can do is insult them.
                      incredible.
\_ No one wants his interest. There isn't a stupid
subculture, this is AI. You know, the folks who
brought you garbage collection, multiple processes
on one machine, and lots of other things.
\_ thank you for proving my point.
\_ Nothing is more repulsive than ignorance with
                               a chip on its shoulder.
\_ But...the OP doesn't seem to have a chip on
his/her shoulder...though you seem to be
working hard to make up the difference.
\_ Egotism is the anesthetic given by a
kindly nature to relieve the pain of being
                                  a damned fool.
\_ you don't gain enlightenment by having someone
                         explain it to you.

\_ this appears to be quite old news.

2/1 Space shuttle Columbia lost. Destroyed during landing attempt.
        http://www.nandotimes.com/front/v-text/story/745163p-5408642c.html
\_ Pick your favorite news service. Obviously the story is everywhere.
200,000 feet in the air over Texas when it disintegrated. No chance
of survivors. A dark day for us all.
\_ why's it a dark day for us all? It's only 7 people; we kill
that many in Iraq daily, and that's even before we invade.
              \_ You're an idiot.
\_ Why is he an idiot? I think that's a relevent point
                    to consider.
\_ There's no relation or comparison to the two. That's
why he's an idiot. Only an ultra leftist Berkeley
quality sub-genius idiot would think like that. Thus,
he's an idiot. The same kind of idiot that wanted
sanctions instead of the gulf war and now makes pathetic
whimpering noises about how sanctions are killing
hundreds of millions of Iraqi children everyday. That
\_ in the end it's still 7 people. no one gave a shit
when 7 germans died in a helicopter crash in
afghanistan. some marines died that way too.
                       kind of idiot.
\_ the general point of its only being 7 people is valid
and no one gave a shit about the various people who
got killed in fuckups in afghanistan
\_ putting those 7 people into space involved the
dedicated efforts of hundreds of thousands and
the support of hundreds of millions of people.
\_ So does toppling brutal dictator Sharon.
\_ Perhaps you missed out on the recent elections
where your Jew hating Arab parties got crushed
and lost seats all over the place? Go compare
to the PLO 'elections'. Oh wait, they don't have
                             any.
\_ right, and if brutal dictator sharon were
killed in a big flash of light over texas,
that would be a big deal, too.
\_ Speculation of cause? Oldest shuttle, came in too hot at 200K feet,
           heat shield failure, something decompressed.
           \_ Don't fly with jews.
\_ Nando story says on takeoff, some debris fell and hit the
shuttle. They didn't think it would cause problems, but
              maybe they were wrong.
\_ Apparently Columbia had just gone through major overhaul to
              replace old parts, etc.
