Thanks. \-yes, it dpedns a lot on whether someine like say DJB shows up.--psb \-yes, it dependsa lot on whether someone like say DJB shows up.--psb \_ who exactly are you referring to? Who is DJB? \_ http://cr.yp.to/djb.html \_ Is that a D or a T? \_ Foolish Mortal! Question Not The psb!!! --psb #1 Fan \_ From a personality point of view it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. -- acquainted with [td]jb |

9/9 Anybody know of any decent/honest Toyota mechanic in Fremont area? Preferably close to Mowry and 880. TIA. \_ My dad always took ours to a Vietnamese family-owned shop on Blacow and Central (across from the Arco). They always did decent work and were very reasonable. \_ Purfect auto on mowry and fremont blvd \_ Well, there's the Toyota dealer at 880 and Auto Mall... (You didn't say cheap) |

9/9 What's the difference between a skeleton and a stub? A stub is a client-size proxy representing a remote function, right? Then what is the skeleton used for? \_ the skeleton is the other bit of the function, the one that is run on the server. |

9/9 Thank you letter writing hint: keep it simple, do not go off like some bumbling idiot at the end telling them the source of your nick name, do not use lines like "I really enjoyed it as much as any interview can be enjoyed" or talk about their 'diverse' backgrounds. That PC shit is garbage once you leave the ivory tower. Keep it to a simple thank you and mention something about their company and why you're The One and that you look forward to hearing from them. Blah. \_ Thank you very much for your contribution to the motd. i simply *loved* reading it. reading your post really made my day. did i ever tell you where i got the nickname "troller"? well, it all started in college when i decided to get a csua account. it's really a great story(see attatched pages.) among the many fantastic skills i learned in college was facilitating diversity through...oh, god i just can't continue. \_ Thanks. This must be the first time in known history that someone volunteered potentially useful advice on the motd without provocation. And no, the rest of you should not bother making a "that's trivial" or "that's lame advice" thread. \_ I loved it! It was better than Cats! I could see it again and again! \_ but you still haven't told me where you got your nickname from. \_ Yeah forget that shit. Stick to offering blowjobs. |

9/9 Who makes the Cinema displays for Apple? --dim \_ Didn't Apple sign a $100 Mil. Deal with Samsung? Think they make the LCDs. -=Aubie \_ I've read it's either LG or Samsung, but have no definite facts. \_ we're so glad you showed up. |

9/9 I'm recompiling the Linux kernel on a slow laptop. I have the kernel configured to use modules and it successfully compiled. I encountered an error during the modules_install. I want to recompile less modules. Do I need to recompile the kernel also? \_ Do you mean 'less modules' in the sense of 'using fewer modules' or 'minus the modules'? In the first case, not necessarily, unless you want the kernel to do the stuff the missing modules did. In the second, I think yes, if want to remove module support from the kernel altogether. Can you compile the kernel on a faster machine? -John \_ good point. I meant "fewer modules". There are just a lot of modules that get compiled by default: things I don't need. I'll still be using modules. I don't own a faster machine with linux, but I have some accounts. Hmmm. Thx. |

9/10 no security on soda? I wrote a private personal thank you note in my own directory, next thing i know it's posted on motd. I guess we can't keep anything personal or private on soda. \_ permissions? \_doh! \_ even if permissions are not set to user only, you might want to respect their privacy and not snoop around. Just a thought. \_ for there to be an invasion of privacy, there has to be an attempt to have kept it private. leaving your files world readable in no way sets the expection of privacy \_ and we should avert our eyes from your window when you're singing, naked, with the blinds up... If you can't figure out file perms, don't expect anything to stay private. \_ /csua/adm/doc/policies/general on the other hand, in the spirit of this being a community (kind of), I generally dislike nazi'd permissions. If you have really sensitive stuff, it shouldn't be on soda.csua in the first place. \_ where should it be, then? |

9/10 You can do better than troll boy. Try Again. \_ No. It's real and it's restored. Sorry your life/job are so boring. Not everyone lives your boring shitty sexless life. I wouldn't be the first person getting laid in this or any other company with their boss or anyone else. |

9/10 My manager got flowers from her husband today for "being really really good". Listening in on her phone call they had their first three way last night. She's really hot. She's made a few comments about me in *that* way. What should I do? \_ Get a grip. She's your boss. \_ I envy you!!! If I were you, I'd definitely go for it if it's her and me only. But no thanks if it's a threesome with her husband. BTW how is she hot? As for inappropriate relationships at work, I think she'll be in bigger trouble than you are since she's the superior one. So I wouldn't worry too mich. BTW how is she hot? \_ Don't pass up an oppurtunity such as this. Sue her for sexual harassment. \_ You can't successfully sue anyone for some random comments. You'll get laughed out of court *and* lose your job. \_ *pshaw* No lawyer in their right mind would take the case. \_ Sexual harrassment is very hard to prove. You need to establish an ongoing pattern of incidents and prove you felt your job was at risk because of said harrassment. \_ How about some "entrapment"? \_ I doubt she's an FBI agent or local police. |

9/10 When a guy says that he can bench press 130 lbs, what exactly does that mean? Doing 130 lbs for how many reps? Is there a standard way people talk about this. And a related question, I can bench my body weight now (130 lbs). Is this considered "strong"? Again, I'm looking for rules of thumbs of what a normal or strong guy should be benching. \_ 130 lbs?!!! You must either be really short for a guy or anorexic. I would suggest that you eat more. Most guys weight at least 150 lbs by college. \_ I'm the guy with 8% body fat. I weigh 130 but I don't look skinny. There's almost no lard on me. \_ Most guys can compose grammatically correct sentences by college, as well. \_ By whose grammar is that sentence incorrect? Zsa Zsa Gabor's? And what's with the superfluous comma? --scotsman \_ it either means they rep with that weight or they can max out at that weight. if someone asked you what you rep with, you'd obviously tell them that amount. but if they don't specify, and you wanted to show off, you'd probably tell them what you can max (which will likely be more than what you rep with). as far as rules of thumb, they say approximately, to be "strong", you should bench (rep) your weight and a half. \_ damn, 1.5 times your body weight to be considered "strong"? Let's see how long before I can bench 195! My weight will increase as I reach that target though. so the 1.5 * weight will only become a real goal when I start plateauing. \_ Hmm, I don't think I'll ever be benching 300. I guess I'll never be strong. \_ With that sort of attitude, you're probably right. \_ When a guy says he can press X many pounds, he's saying he wants your hot man meat action in the gym's shower. |
