8/23 What's a good video card/chipset to let me play DVD full screen
on a tv-out while doing win32 stuff on the monitor? Nvidia for
example seems to want to put this ugly black border around the
tv-out image.
\_Matrox Radeon All-In-Wonder.
\_ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder.
\_ well, if you want to tweak the black border, try tvtool
(http://www.tvtool.de ... incidentally, if you don't know why
the black border is there in the first place, it's to try to
correct for overscan, which varies from television to television.
\_ hey this program says I have a tv out chip on my card but I only
have one output. Is there a cable I can get that lets me connect
from a standard monitor output to my tv?
\_ they're called scanline converters, and they're not cheap.

http://www.aver.com/products/presentation.html
\_ but supposedly my card has all that already, just not the port
I need to plug into my tv. Where is it?
\_ well, maybe it would help if you mentioned exactly what
card you have? maybe your card is supposed to be used in
conjunction with an nVidia Personal Cinema card or something?
or maybe the chip is there because it was on a reference
board, but to reduce costs it can't actually be used for
anything?
\_Just buy a DVD player. |

8/23 Is it just me, or are threads being purged three or four times
a day? It seems like, just as motd starts to be entertaining
or interesting, someone purges it. What gives? -mice
\_ revolution starts in '03.
\_ I think there are those who do not want the motd to be
entertaining or interesting. They want it to be nothing
but "couch for sale" and "sysadmin question of the day".
\_ We go through cycles of this. Everyone few months a new geek
shows up who think they're going to be the one who "cleans up
the motd" and "kills all the trolls" and blah blah blah. They
fight a losing battle for a few days, sometimes as long as a
week or two and then grow up and go away and find better ways
to spend their time than cull non-nerd topics from the motd.
No big deal. I know who this particular loser is. It won't
last much longer. Be patient, keep posting and keep reposting
from your copy after each idiotic blasting. Works everytime.
\_ I thought paolo gave up on that?
\_ paolo wasn't culling, he was deleting the entire motd
every 3 minutes by an automated script. -tom |

8/23 http://www.craigslist.org/sfo/eby/sad/5324072.html Night shift sysadmin slacker job. Do nothing. Get paid. Low skill level. Get paid to do homework and play quake all night. Berkeley. I don't know anything about the company but I figure one of you lazy game playing, web surfing, motd butchering, wall scribbling slackers might want to get paid to do what you're already doing now for free. |

\_ Capitalist pig!
\_ Sigh... no, he's obviously an anti-capitalist traitor seeking to
destroy the local economy as it pertains to pre-owned furniture. |

8/24 Does anyone have a multi-point wireless network at home? What
products do you use? I bould a dsl/wireless router since it had
an integrated switch, but it wouldn't bridge the internal switch
with my existing wireless network. Would adding another access
point in "infrastructure mode" and connecting it to a hub even
work as a bridge? Thanks.
\_ no.. 2 AP's in infrastructure mode using the same ssid
doesnt bridge.. it screws things up. |

8/23 Isn't paolo's auto motd trim script subject to ban?
