7/11 Damn, spamassassin is so awesome (in case you didn't already know this). It filters >1000msgs/mo for me. I only get 3-4 spams/month and I've never had a non-spam message get marked as spam. [ reformatted - motdformatd ] \_ spamassassin is clearly ANTISEMITIC and COMMUNIST. \_ I thought it was CHAOTIC EVIL +2 \_ using the default rule set for version 2.30, spamassassin misclassifies a few of my mails everyday. \_ I had this problem to start with. I spent about ten minutes also do this to filter out some virus transmissions by upping the score for large binary includes to near your threshold score. looking at what rules had been in play and altered the defaults accordingly. I haven't had any false captures in awhile. You can also do this to filter out some virus transmissions by upping the score for large binary includes to near your threshold score. It sounds like i-file adjusts automatically, though, if this is really a problem for you. You might want to check that out. \_ spamassassin's whitelisting features are your friend. \_ white listing sucks for people who have more than 2 friends. \_ and they're both whitelisting features in spamassassin! \_ Irrelevant for people posting in motd. \_ i can certainly white list. but the fact that i need to white list contradicts the original poster's enthusiastic endorsement of spamassassin's perfection. \_ English major here. :-) \_ OP here: do you use -a for autowhitelisting? That might help, but I don't use it and it's still near-perfect for me. Maybe my friends don't send me spam-like email? I don't have any explicit whitelists and I haven't changed any rules. \_ If you get newsletters with ads, spamassassin is prone to misclassifying these. \_ Hmmm, newsletters with ads huh? Some people use the term 'friend' pretty loosely. \_ My friends are sending me great stuff everyday about how to make cash fast, opportunities to make money selling other people's email addresses and I get picked up a lot by hot chicks all over the net several times a day! \_ Might I suggest using procmail to filter these before spamassassin gets to them? \_ I'm using ifile, and I'm up to 868 pieces of spam so far in the first two weeks, and and only one was errantly marked as spam. -ERic \_ Does ifile need a lot of setup time or config? Or can it learn from your existing mail folders? \_ You can train it on your existing mail folders. \_ Mebbe i should write up a howto on the scripts in /csua/bin. Will do when work slows down. --scotsman |

7/11 So, Linux doesn't allow suid shell scripts to work properly. However, i've got plenty of suid binaries and they evidently work. Will PERL suid programs work the way they should? Is there a good URL i can go to and have this all cleared up for me? \_ yes, suid perl scripts work fine. (They work only when setuid shell scripts are disabled in the kernel--for security reasons). -tom \_ suid shell scripts are disabled because it's really hard to block out every single way someone could exploit a shell script into doing something unintended, (changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH, IFS, PATH, SHELL, etc etc etc) |

7/11 "mailq" doesn't work anymore: can not chdir(/var/spool/mqueue/): Permission denied Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser. Is that expected after the OS upgrade? -- yuen \_ why do you need to run mailq \_ er.. to see if my mail is stuck in the queue? get yer head out of that pig. \_ Someone below said the disk was full and mail wasn't going out nor coming in. --- yuen \_ This poses a good feature possibility. why not have files in /var/spool/mqueue owned by the user? \_ which user? sender? recipient? what about multiple recipients? \_ sender obviously. recipients may not even exist on this host. \_ sender may not exist either, smug poser. \_ and then it wouldn't matter because they wouldn't have permissions, dumbass. \_ Hah! You sure got zinged! Genius! \_ This is a sendmail 8.12.x feature. |

7/11 how dangerous are turtles? if one of the bigger ones attacks my kayak, will I be able to defend myself with my paddle? \_ Turtles are usually harmless. However, there are a few species in genus Terrapene Dinocarnivorus and Clemmus Giganticus which have been classified as extremely dangerous. These species feed on large surface-floating objects, such as bull seals--as they are at home both in salt- and freshwater environments, individuals examples weighing up to 900 pounds have been spotted in a variety of North American rivers. Interestingly enough, they do not attack turquoise or pink kayaks; however, the frequent incidents involving humans can often result in death or dismemberment. In ocean environments, these behemoths are even more frequently deadly, especially when encountered during a waning moon. Due to their heavily carnivorous diet, the animals' highly flatulent expectorations can be of a caustic nature, and thus very harmful to human mucus membranes. -John \_ They only attack the Swiss so the OP is probably safe. -ausman \_ where are you kayaking? tahiti? \_ Okay, I'll bite: the turtles in Hawaii may be different from the ones where you are going, but I couldn't even chase them while snorkling. Turtles are wary of others. I don't think they'll attack you while kayaking. \_ that's what I was hoping. I saw waves heading away from my kayak that kind of had to be a turtle which indicated it was big enough to knock the boat over, and if it was a snapping turtle it could kill me then. i'm not going to start any trouble with a turtle on purpose, and i figured it was afraid of me also, but i really really don't want a toombstone that says "killed by turtle." \_ The snapping turtle bites!--More-- You die...--More--- Donatello, but I think that Raphel and the others will easily \_ Raphael \_ Depends on which one attacks you. You might be able to take Donatello, but I think that Raphael and the others will easily break your paddle and kick your ass. \_ Don was always kind of the wussy boy. \_ Make sure you don't wear clothing with the Gnome logo, as the turtles might mistake you for a member of the Foot clan. Then you would really get your ass kicked. (I don't care if you are a member of the Cal Tae Kwon Do team, they are NINJAS!) \_ Fuck! Is the Ninja Turtle generation in college already?! \_ C0W4BUNG4 D00D! \_ There used to be some really big turtles, but they are all dead now, so you should be fine. \_ Turtles don't attack people. People attack turtles. Stay away from the turtles. They're harmless, endangered and almost totally defenseless if you can catch them. \_ Except for their NINJA weapons! |

7/11 I've varied my workout and I seem to be getting some results now. I've noticed that my muscles are getting bigger. However, my total weight remains the same. Anybody had that happen? Muscle weighs more than fat, I could be losing fat but I doubt that's happening. what else could account for the fact that I'm getting stronger and bulkier while total body weight remains the same? Thanks. \_ It's not unusual for people to gain muscle and yet *lose* weight. Why do you doubt you are losing fat? --dim \_ because I'm already at 8% body fat. This is measured using one of those body fat machine. I'm as lean as I can be. :) \_ Those body fat machines overestimate if you are relatively skinny. Calipers plus coach are better. \_ well ok. I just thought there was a generic explanation for something like this. As long as I'm getting stronger and bulkier I have no complains. \_ you don't want to go much below 8% body fat for males. Not healthy. \_ is there a scientific basis for this? I'm vegetarian. Since I stopped eating meat my workout has gotten a lot more effective. I don't have to waste energy sweating off the fat and cholesterol. \_ body fat refers to fat in your body not in food. \_ well, for one thing, your brain and nerves are sheathed in fat, and your brain is mostly fat. For more info, do yer own googling. But come on it's common sense. Extremes in any direction are generally bad. \_ Here is a URL which describes < 8% body fat as being unhealthy. http://www.shapeup.org/dated/082800.htm \_ I have a friend with 7% body fat and his doctor told him it is too low and bad for his skin. \_ Did you weight yourself one time before you go to bathroom but another time after? \_ this is *much* easier than installing a scale in your shitter if you want to know how heavy your turds are. \_ When you take steroids, you gain weight in the muscles, but lose weight when your sexual organs shrink. When you become a meathead your muscles also take up more blood flow, decreasing the blood your brains gets. Your brain grows smaller, hence weight (and intelligence) loss. |
