        \_ I seem to recall that when you sign up for the test, you list the
           schools you're sending the score to, like the SAT.  But I'm not
           sure.
        \_ I was just looking into this for my sister... you should be able
           to find a pretty informative FAQ on the college board's AP website
           (or ETS or something) just google it. It had all the info about
           cancelling and sending scores, etc.

5/13    ucla ee guy, did you get into USC? I applied to their PhD
        but was offered their MS program. I declined, how about you?
        \_ I got into MS. I didn't apply to PhD, mostly because a
           USC prof. who wrote me a letter of rec told me that it
           wasn't worth my time to do a PhD right now.
                \_ PhD is rarely financially sound. Having that
                   said I'm surprised that he gave you that advise.
                   Maybe he thinks that you're not a PhD material.

                      some of my ex-bosses (Stanford Profs.) think
                      I could easily do it. Anyway, the USC prof.
                      advice was based on purely financial

           there is only unilateral executive action.

           \_ Don't think so. If they are, it might be considered a "cash
              advance." You'll get dinged for that.
              \_ FAQ for I bond says this is not the case. In fact,
                 unless you want to go purchase the bonds at auction,
                 or pay a broker a commission, you must purchase with
                 a credit card.I have done this and not had a problem.

5/14    Anybody have a backyard pool?  I don't use it often enough and it's
        a major expense.  I'm considering making it non-functional for 1
        year or more.  Draining the water and stopping the pumps, etc.  This
        procedure have to be reversible though.  When I sell my house a few
        years down the road I want to start it up again.  Is that even
        possible?

        \_ The short answer is yes.  What kind of a pool is it?  If it is a
           concrete pool then this is easy.  If it is a rubber lined pool you
           have to be worried about the lining coming loose and it may be hard
           to put back in and get wrinkles.  (you can always pay someone to

           reinstall your liner if you have this issue, though it isn't that
           hard.) Also, with a rubber lined pool without water you probably
           want to keep it covered when it is dry. I don't know anything about

                    his backyard and were using his drained-pool. My boss
                    had it filled with cement(they were just finishing up
                    when I visited, so he told me his story then). My co-

                    a dead body in it and normally you'd think that was a joke
                    but not if you knew my boss, you might not think so.

           water (unless you can re-use the water to irrigate your lawn or a
           nearby park, for example.)  Re-filling with tap water also costs
           you $2.18 per 1000 galloon in Alameda county.  Just two more things
           to consider.
