If you read the arguments put forth by
the opponents of the constitution, you
will find that chief among them was that
the framers had abandoned "christianity"
and had written the constitution so that
anyone could hold public office. The
constitution was written in a secular
fashion for many reasons, some of which
had to do with the deist believes of the
