3/01 tjb gets thrown out of UCB... now threatens terrorism!
\_ See http://www.b-boys.com threads under "tibee" -- there are a number
           of them.
        \_ link?
\_ please forward all TJB correspondence to brain
        \_ who is tjb?
\_ He's kind of the Wesley Willis of EECS.
\_ finger: tjb: no such user
\_ just run tjb from the command line.
                \_ <DEAD>www.gelatinous.com/danh/trevor/trevor.html<DEAD>
\_ i don't see anything on that list of events
as lame as compiling a list like that about
                      someone.
\_ He was my floormate freshman year. Not a bad guy. Pretty
coked up, but cool in that dorm sort of way. But I think people
who follow his story should admit something- the guy's pretty
damn smart. He'll either turn out to be the next Steve Jobs if
he cleans up, or Ted Kazinski. Has anybody else gotten this
              vibe about him?
\_ He's smarter than the average UCB student, but far from
brilliant, and too socially incompetent to get anywhere in
the real world (other than perhaps in narcotics trade...)
Steve Jobs is right out. Ted Kazynski -- improbable, but
not at all impossible. -met tjb in person, not too willing
                 to admit that
\_ My guess is that he will end up on lithium, put on 40 pounds,
move back to Ohio, get a job and marry a fat white blonde
                 chick.

2/28 Todd Solondz speaks! Saturday, Wheeler. 1 free ticket for all
Cal students w/ Student ID at the Zellerbach Box Office.
Would anyone in the CSUA be interested in possibly recording
this (if possible) and hosting it on the web somewhere? I'm
willing to help but don't have access to many of the needed
        resources. - rory
        \_ who is todd solondz?
\_ Isn't he the kid in Mask with Cher?
              \_ Eric Stoltz. :)
\_ Sadly, I think that kid is dead. ...wonder if he
ever made it to Katmandu or wherever.
           \_ Indie movie director.

2/28 Another end-of-month URL:
What's wrong with this picture? Took me about a minute to figure it out
        http://www.stonetable.org/files/whatswrong.swf
\_ well, it's way over-sharpened, and uses too much jpg compression.
The lighting is also difficult; it could use some studio lights
to light the foreground and mute the effect of the bright
           sunlight in the window.  I don't see a real focus of interest;
it would be better composed as a smaller picture, perhaps by
placing the flowers on the table at the intersection of thirds.
            -tom
\_ I don't get it. Is the punchline the stupid scream?
\_ So what is the answer?
        \_ Uuuuuh... whatever.
\_ The wayboard.gif one was better (on the motd 1/12/2002)
           \_ Yup. http://208.178.180.118/gold/wayboard.gif
              \_ what's about the wayboard.gif? I just see a junk yard.
what is it supposed to be?
\_ it's the same thing. what's wrong with the picture. takes
about a minute to figure out.
        \_ Try http://www.stonetable.org/files/diplomacy.swf

3/1 is there a good electronics dictionary/encyclopedia online?
\_ I've found FOLDOC to be pretty handy:
            http://wombat.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc
\_ just wanted to substantiate that claim... I've learned alot
               from FOLDOC over the years.

3/01 Have iPod, will Shoplift:
        http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,50688,00.html
\_ Wired is a pack of idiots. (This is not news). Firewire hard
drives have been available for years. -tom
\_ FW HDs in the form factor of the iPod have not been
available for "years". If you walk in with a 5 1/4"
enclosure or even one of those "portable" drives
under your jacket people are going to notice. But if
you walk in with a iPod (walkman sized) its a whole
              different story.
\_ we have a VST firewire hard drive, purchased at least
two years ago, that's maybe 20% bigger than the iPod. -tom

3/1 I'm looking for a product that will let me page my keys, like
how you can page a cordless phone when you lose it around the
house. Anyone know where I can get this? Particularly one
that can control many little pagers.
           \_ http://www.greatbuyusa.com/category.asp?category=5
                It responds to a whistle.
\_ too bad whistle is on key chain
\_ the transceive that you'd have to attach to your keys would
probably be pretty bulky and make this whole endeavor
           not practical.
\_ It wouldn't have to support long ranges.
\_ worst case, you could tape your phone to your keys. So it is
not like it has to be *that* bulky, because you can get pretty
              small cordless phones these days.
\_ I also want something that I can attach to my glasses and Palm
Pilot. Something that will cost me $50 for like 4-5 sensors + base.
           \_ http://www.greatbuyusa.com/category.asp?category=5
                It responds to a whistle.
\_ What would be cool is if they can make something like
this, except the whistle would cause something in the
key ring attachment to resonate, which gets turned into
torque and make the whole thing hover in the air.
\_ maybe brookstone or sharper image?
\_ i remember seeing something like this for keys in "SkyMall", the
ubercatalog they give you on airplanes to tempt you into buying
stuff when you're bored out of your mind.
