2/25 <DEAD>www.bsdi.com/date<DEAD> used to have a small gif showing where
the sun was currently shining. Anybody know where I can find that
        image somewhere else?
        \_http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/uncgi/Earth/action?opt=-p gets you
a large image of that, plus access to a bunch of other cool stuff.
          \_ this is cool.

2/25 http://www.smartpages.com does not return most of the numbers that I provided.
Any other rec's of where I can find the names that certain phone #'s
belong to. And, when sites that will give me a general loc of a
        particular area code?
        \_ http://www.411.com for number -> name.  http://decoder.americom.com
for area code -> location. -- yuen
\_ /csua/bin/areacode also works for area code to location
\_ it works for location -> area code as well.

2/25 What happened to the "vis" program? The one that shows the output
        of a program repeatedly?
        \_ http://vlsi.colorado.edu/~vis/whatis.html
\_That's not the program I am talking about.
\_ That's not the program I am talking about. I want vis:
"a program that repeatedly executes a specified command
and refreshes the display of its output screen" from O'Reilly
\_ From what O'Reilley? They publish hundreds of titles.
\_ O'Reilly Unix Power Tools. 1st ed. This Program:
                           http://www.chemie.fu-berlin.de/cgi-bin/man?Vis
\_ Most of the power tools were on the included
CD, not necessarily part of any OS
        \_ There's a similar program called "display"
http://www.ipsmart.com/src or misc/display in FreeBSD ports.
Be careful if you have ImageMagick installed; it also has a binary
in /usr/local/bin named "display" (which no one ever really uses,
so, well, don't worry about it)

2/26 My little cousin got into Berkeley but not UCLA. Back in my days
this was very uncommon. Is this common now?
\_ Was he instate our out of state?
\_ What major? That could make all the difference.
\_ I got into Cal but not Irvine, as intended CS major.
\_ Same thing happened to me...but I applied as a polisci major
there and as a music major here!
\_ When I applied for Fall '90 junior transfer into CS, I got into
Berkeley and San Diego but not LA nor Davis.
\_ Got into Cal, UCLA, Irvine, UCSD as a freshman. I do not know what
a rejection letter looks like. My letters were all big and fat and
full of much happiness and joy.
\_ Congrats on preserving your ego by not applying to Harvard, Yale,
              Stanfurd, Princeton, CMU, ......
              Stanfurd, Princeton, CMU, Cornell, ......
\_ CMU does not fit. CMU is like UCLA difficulty to get into.
\_ You think a havud edukayshun is better than what Cal offers?
Madness.... Those are just names. Anyway, I applied to
Princeton just for kicks and yes I was accepted but why would
I really want to have a piece of paper? Those aren't schools.
They're about penis size. My dick is big enough without a
shitty ivy name on my diploma. How many Havud grads killed
how many companies in the late 90s? Farm grads? Yes, thanks.
\_ How much did your daddy donate?
\_ *laugh* Nothing. No one needs to donate to get into UC.
\_ A friend of mine went to UCLA until the easy access to drugs
helped him fuck up his life. He went to some 5th rate school in
Arizona and last I knew was a late night DJ on the local college
           radio station. UCLA ROCKS!
\_ UCLA has easier access to drugs than Cal?! Har.
\_ Yes. He was going to Mexico twice a month to pick up a truck
load. You're confused. You think a few hits of acid, some
mushrooms and smoking out with your TA is big time drug
                 activity. How naive.
\_ you must be on crack

"The analysis ...... suggests, in fact, that Mr. bin Laden and Al
Qaeda may have been duped by black-market weapons swindlers selling
crude containers hand-painted with skulls and crossbones and dipped,
perhaps, in medical waste to fool a Geiger counter, officials said."
        HAHAHAHA!
\_ Kind of old news but it's nice to see it confirmed. BTW, anyone
know how long weapon's grade material takes to degrade? If someone
stole X amount of nuke quality stuff in 1992, how much would they
have left today and how much would it take to build a clean bomb?
\_ He can't be *that* stupid, can he? Maybe he's just trying to
           deceive us?
\_ It's an old story. This just confirms what was already a really
           good assumption from prior reports.
\_ and then they could have just left the fake containers to let us
*think* they were duped. If it was the real thing, do you think
they'd really have just abandoned it while they were melting into
the mountains to fight again another day?
\_ Nobody said it was the real thing. What's your point?
\_ And maybe they did that and we know they know we know and hey
someone get out the cone of motd silence! 007 you're not, maybe
              86.

2/25 I have the following line in my .Xdefaults file:
           emacs*font: fixed
but am trying to run emacs on my windows machine and was
wondering if there was any way to acheive the same result
        through emacs. Anyone know? Thanks.
\_ If you're running NT emacs 20, click Mule -> Set Font/Fontset, then
choose your font. Is that what you want? I don't know how to
specify a font in some config file.
\_ And if you like the font "fixed", you can get it from
              ftp://ftp.csua.berkeley.edu/pub/mikeh/fonts.zip
It's called "vt100", and you can install it using the
              Fonts control panel.
              \_ cool, thanks!
Though... I guess the next question then is, is there
anyway to do this in my .emacs file? (set the font,
                 that is)
   (set-default-font "-*-Courier New-normal-r-*-*-12-90-96-96-c-*-iso8859-1")
   ;; that's on NT Emacs 21.1

2/26 We set up a test network for the purposes of trying to collect
email virii/worms. The problem is, it seems most worms operate
on peoples address books in order to spread. Anyone have any
ideas on how we can attract worms to our server sans being in many
        people's address books?
\_ You want to get new ones for study or you're doing some sort of
statistical analysis? The best way to get worms is to go cruise
the kiddie b0ardz and download the original sources from virii
distribution sites. I can find more original and semi-interesting
virii in 5 minutes than you'll 'collect' in 5 years with your
           test network.
           \_ your 31337++  urlP
\_ Duh, google for the word "virii". Stick in "warez" or
other k00l w0rdz to limit the search for kiddie s1t3z.
And don't request a URL at the same time you're insulting
me after I tell you where you can find the info you want.
                   Fucking ungrateful stupid motd bastards.
\_ Wouldn't "virii" imply that the singular form would be "virius"?
           Just curious. -geordan
\- "virii" is almost certainly long. we spent a fair amount of
\- "virii" is almost certainly wrong.we spent a fair amount of
govt dollars arguing about this. i think i walled the
"commentarii" on this. so seach wall log. --psb
\_ aren't you the guy who made fun of Susan Graham with your
awsome video and then later flunked the class?
                   \_ elaborate
\_ Um, yes I made that video, and no I didn't flunk the
class. I admire your ability to stay on topic.
                      -geordan
\_ I don't write the shit, I'm just telling you what word to
search for on google. No one said 16 y/old hax0rz on the
net are required to follow all the rules of perfect English.
                                                                      \_ Latin
No, not Latin. This is English. Latin is dead. _/
The English language only borrows some stuff from
                        Latin. Virii. English. H@x0rz. !Latin.
\_ Post your e-mail address on some very popular web pages. Lots of
the recent outlook worms also e-mail any address found in the
browser cache. We get thousands of copies of each new worm since
our webmaster address is on pages hit hundreds of thousands of times
           a day.
