 11/6 Mathworld is back!!
       http://mathworld.wolfram.com
\_ be that as it may, I will *never* buy a CRC product ever again.
\_ Oh, there's no shame in never buying a CRC product again.
Did you read the terms of the settlement they agreed to
so they could get the site back up? Basically, they're paying
CRC off a lump sum, paying them for estimated future losses
on an ongoing basis, agreeing that CRC has a copyright on their
material, and guaranteeing CRC the rights to future material.
Personally, I wish the site was still down and being fought for
             in court.

11/6 How to find out who is the pedantic prick who is telling me how to
properly ask a question so that I can beat the shit out of him/her?
\_ I suspect the line of pedantic pricks willing to tell you how to
phrase a question using proper English syntax is quite long.
        \_ http://tuxedo.org/~esr
           go to it.

11/7 What's the difference between Adobe Photoshop and Adobe PhotoDeluxe?
Which one is better for editing photographs? Thanks.
\_ PhotoDeluxe is the neutered, given-away-free-with-stuff version of
Photoshop. If all you want to do is a bit of cropping, you'll be
fine with it. If you want full layers, layer effects, filters,
etc, etc, you want Photoshop. --dbushong
        \_ several hundred dollars
        \_ I am Jude Law. I am nobody's bitch!
\_ That line rather summed up the quality of the movie.
\_ Photoshop is what professional photographers use; PhotoDeluxe is all
about providing extreme novices with "guided activities" (so, it's
what grandmothers who want to put the grandkids on their homemade
           Christmas cards use).  You may want to check out Photoshop Elements;
it's a new ~$100 version that's got less functionality than the full
~$600 PS, but has also had substantial engineering work done (plus
some new features added) to make it more focused toward the casual/
           consumer photographer/photo editor. -- kahogan
\_ Photoshop Elements is excellent for digital photos, whether
you want prints or Web images as your final product. -tom

11/7 hello, has anyone dealt with hall kinion? how effective are they?
        \_http://forum.fuckedcompany.com/fc/phparchives/search.php?search=kinion
\_ they were okay with a short-term tech writing contract
i had in 2000 (at digitalthink), but their involvement
was incidental--i found the listing, they happened to
             be managing it. --goetz

11/6 Wednesday at 7pm in 2050 VLSB.
The question is (paraphrased, perhaps): What is the
responsibility of the government in the current crisis and how
should that responsibility evolve over time?
Here's what happened at the meeting:
ACLU and the Green Party are no longer showing up, so now it's
just SWC, the Afghan Student Association, the Muslim Student
Union, the Cal Democrators, the Berkeley Republicans, and
Berkeley USA. Every group is going to give a 6 to 7 minute
speech, and then each group will be able to ask one other group
ONE question. After that comes audience questions.
        the order of speeches:
          1. Berkeley College Republicans 2. Cal Berkeley Democrats 3.
Afghan Student Association 4. United Students for America 5.
Muslim Student Association 6. Stop the War Coalition
The other thing is that the three USA groups are trying to get as
                                        \_ which obviously suck!
many people as possible since they were so frustrated with the
biased crowd during the last debate. They say they've been
publicizing a lot, and they expect to have the majority. I think
we should make sure this doesn't happen, or at least make sure
        there is a balance!
        \_ Webcast?
\_ So how hard did you work to make sure that there was a balanced,
bias-free, no-particular-majority audience at this *last*
           meeting? Uh-uh. That's what I thought.

11/7 Anyone have any recommendations on flat screens? Brands, where to buy?
\_ The Sun one's are good... look out for firesales from failing
           dot-coms.
\_Sun probably OEMs them from someone else. Just go to http://www.zdnet.com
              and read the reviews.
\_ flat-screen CRTs? flat panels? LCDs? Plasma?
