        \_ first time I've seen a password-protected http://docs.sun.com url.
\_ I think it's the first time docs for a beta release
                   have been put there.

8/21 Someone told me that you could download GPS simulators before you
buy them. Where can I find the web site for them? I've already
gone to Magellan and Garmin but couldn't find any handheld GPS
        simulator. Thanks.
\_ Garmin Emap, simply the best. Just buy it.

8/21 What is the emacs equivalent of % in vi? I've tried (require 'paren)
in my .emacs but it doesn't seem to work.
\_ You don't need all that shit. Use ED. No mode of ED's ever sucked.
        \_ like M-x find-matching-paren or something..
        \_ why use emacs?
\_ you're joking right? I didn't think people were actually
              debating this stupid issue anymore.
\- it depends on the question ... a hostile "why should i a
vi/pico/jove user use emacs?" is best answered "you use what
                                    \_ as compared to say vi's perl-mode?
\_ Lack of a perl mode is better than
a perl mode that fucks up your
                                          formatting. -tom
\_ as compared to cperl-mode, which
                                          should be the default --pld.
ever ratshit editor you want". a sincere "why would it be
worth switching to the OTE" is a reasoanble question ... but
the most interesting are more abstract ones like "should cs
students today be taught emacs-only? emacs and vi? tex?
\_ What about stuff like gnus, mh-e, M-x shell, M-x man,
                 etc?
\_ Why do you want to use your text editor to do that stuff
anyways? there is always :! of course, if you can't just
                    open another xterm.
                 ms word?" ok tnx --psb
           \_ M-x compile, gdb, gnus, mh-e, cc-mode, java-mode, php-mode,
              shell-script-mode, perl-mode, make-mode, etc.
                                 \_ emacs perl-mode sucks. -tom
\- look, i dont expect you to actually
beatout gods-perl-mode but if you have some
solid suggestions write them up and post
                                    the to gnu.emacs* or comp.emacs ... that
is if you are capable of anything beyond
this incessant braying and carping. --psb
\_ And of course you send all your
suggestions on how to improve vi to
the vi developers. Idiot. All you
need to see how bad emacs' perl mode
is is a single << operator and some
HTML. And that reminds me, emacs
                                       HTML mode sucks too. -tom
\_ And your comparison is to say
vi's Perl and HTML modes perhaps?
\_ VIM has something similar to the M-x compile. Syntax highlighting
and indenting support for most languages is there too. There
is no integration with gdb however. By the way, where are
you ED fans? I'd like to hear your opinions..
\_ either follow what the first poster suggested, or (better),
look for flash-parens.el on the web. it is superior. also,
you use emacs because is configurable and allows you to write
scripts for it. vim doesn't let you do that. -ali
\_ but Lisp is so slow and nasty, unlike asm... ok tnx -- psb #2 fan
\_ You can customize vim using its (awkward yet useful) built-in
language or, if that is not enough, you can compile vim with
              perl and/or tcl support.
\_ you can also compile nvi (which is much more pleasant on
first experience than vim) with perl and tcl support, but it
doesn't have all of the (clanging) bells and (piercing)
whistles.. it just, well, edits text
\_ I wish it were able to, well, edit your (purple) text.

8/21 what's the correct agency to contact when a person/company
wont pay me for work done?
\_ The Board of Shait Cunts.
        \_ California State Labor Board.
\_ How much money is it? If its enough and the company is
big enough you should threaten to sue. You can probably
work out a good settlement, perhaps for more $s than
just back pay if you get the media involved.
\_ Threaten to sue or bring the subject up with the State Labor
Board. If you take it to the Labor Board, it will take time
to get your money, but the company will be forced to show
their pay records of all employees affected by California
state taxes. This is NOT an idle threat. Be sure you ARE
right, otherwise the company can countersue for harrassment.
\_ why don't you tell us fellow sodans which person/company is it?
\_ send the Soda Brotherhood after them

8/22 Do Disneyland in LA and Universal Studio close during Thanksgiving
        long weekend? Thanks.
\_ That would be foolish of them.
\_ no. ex disneyland employee. (guest control/riverbell terrace)
\_ I don't know about Universal Studios, but Disneyland is open
365 days per year. They *never* close and I confirmed that by
phone like you should've done you lazy fuck. --dim
\_ You get to make free long-distance phone calls? I already
tried the web site before I asked here, but I got errors when
I tried to look up schedules for those four days of the weekend.
\_ Not only are you lazy, but cheap as well. How much is
admission? You think an extra dime for research is going
to kill you? Seriously. I took less time to call and find
out than for your atrophied brain to cobble together
these sentences. By the way, you are welcome. --dim
\_ They *never* close? They close at night don't they?
\_ ooh, the semantics police. well, technically, they close
to the public, but from the moment the gates close to when
the gates open, there are cleanup crews and technicians
getting the park ready for the next day. so yeah, they
never do close in a sense.
\_ I'm usually not that picky on people unless it's someone
                    bitchy.
\_ No they are open 24 hours per day, Einstein. If you
want to be a bitch then *yes* they do close during
Thanksgiving weekend at some point. --dim

8/22 There's a law in New York that prohibits selling tickets at over 20%
of their face value. I live in CA and want to sell my extra tickets to
a NY event over the internet. Is it illegal for me to sell them for
more than %20 or does the law not apply to me because i'm not selling
        the tickets in NY?
\_ Sounds like a Federal case to me. Don't worry about it though,
unless you are making tons of money off of it, no one will care.
Legal advice is worth what you pay for it!
\_ It's a local issue. The Seattle Mariners allows ticket holders
to scalp on their web site as long as they don't live within
the Seattle area (where it is illegal to charge over face
              value for them). You're fine.
\_ it's illegal to charge 120% AT THE EVENT. In most places.
But youd better do your research for each state you plan
            selling them in.
\_ Tricky. It can be claimed that you will sell it to only someone who
go to NY. Thus NY can claim personal jurisdiction. The problem is
that the event is in NY!! IANAL. - sagarwal
