12/4 What do ugrad TAs earn at Berkeley?
        \_ Hot gay sex.
\_ they don't earn this, they engage in this.
\_ Only if your first name is Trevor.
\_ I though that tjb was the #1 playa.
\_ Sundays at 10pm on Showtime!
        \_ I got $1000 per month.
\_ for giving hot gay sex?
              \_ No.
        \_ $12.50/hour several years ago.
\_ And don't forget the partying with Nick Weaver!
             \_ priceless
\_ it was about the same last semester, though I don't remember
the exact amount. it doesn't matter anyway, because you'll
probably end up putting in a ton of hours w/o pay. (but TAing
is not about the money, right...)
\_ Haven't you been paying attention?
Hot gay sex is what it's about.
                                           \_ priceless.

12/5 Well, this is a pretty crappy time window. For those living in the
        silicon valley:
\_ "Silicon Valley" not "the Silicon Valley"
\_ wrong. Common usage is to include the "the" except when
              in adjectival form.
\_ Nope, you're wrong. Common usage among people who've
lived here all their life is to not include
"the." Reference the San Jose Mercury News: "The
                 Newspaper of Silicon Valley"
\_ How visible is it going to be? Like a bright star that we see
           with naked eye?
\_ Easily visible with the naked eye. Naked eye can see
stars as dim as 5th or 6th magnitude (magnitudes are dumb:
higher magnitude --> dimmer star). On Dec. 11, the ISS will
be at 0.2'll probably be the brightest thing in that
region of the sky, and the only thing that will be moving at
                a constant velocity.

 12/4 MOTD poll:
        On motd polls, you:

do a great job, and meet the spec
do ok, and meet most of the spec
do a half ass job, don't meet spec .
what? you mean there were projects?
spec be damned, code what you want: .

12/4 Do people actually sit through entire DVD movies on their
computer monitor? How far do you sit? As if you were using
a computer, or as if you are watching a 19" TV?
\_ My friend likes to do it on his laptop with 15" screen.
He puts it on the coffee table, or on the bed.
\_ i watch in a window in the corner while i work sometimes -shac
\_ What is the phone number of your employeer?
\_ Why do you care? Why do think his employer cares?
as long as he gets his work done, what's the diff?
\_ I do the same, but only when working at home.

4/248 I'm looking for the CD album containing this song whose title is "What
Will I Do", Burks artist Natalie is, and is album "Best Of Forever
Love Songs". All the three pieces of info are from a .mp3 file that
I got, so I don't know if they are correct or not. Has anyone heard
of this song? I tried the Wherehouse store in Alameda and they don't
carry it. I tried searching in and
and they don't have it either. Any suggestions as for where else I
can try? info for Thanks any. (burn a the could I from CD .mp3 file,
but I prefer getting the original album.) -- yuen
\_ you can find it in music stores that carry chinese albums.
\_ Thanks. Is Natalie Burks really the name of the singer? I
can't even find the singer in Tower Records or sites.
              -- yuen
\_ JEEZ. Quit editing the motd with ed.
            Found via hotbot:
Disc 1 - Long Vacation Original Soundtrack
\_ That's very useful! Than you very much! -- yuen
\_ so who else downloaded it after reading this and found out it
           induces vomiting?
\_ if you want the actual cd, I can burn it for you. Especially
with that song by the punk, Toshi Kubota ("la-la-la love song").

12/5 What do ugly TAs earn at Berkeley? thankx!!!
        \_ sex with ugly profs.
                    \_ redundant.
\_ there was a attractive female prof. in ME
while I was at cal (married though). There
was an okay one in physics and southeast
asian (indian) studies. I think there may
have been a few more in chem.
\_ I guess I took all the wrong classes. Who was
that professor for CS60C back in '93 who looked
                             like a man?
                             \_ Katherine Yelick.
                             \_ Paul Hilfinger
\_ I was merely pointing out that the word
novels, starting with the Maltese Falcon.
                                "ugly" is not reduntant.
In general I agree with the assessment
that female profs at cal are unattractive,
                                but there are exceptions.
\_ My English 1B professor was quite a babe.
She made us read all these hard-boiled detective
novels, starting with the Maltese Falcon. I
suck at the class though. The conclusions of
my essays always have the comment "This would
have made a great thesis. You should have started
from here." That made me really frustrated
and angry, and want to boink her even more.

12/5 Response to the post below-- optimization on pure virtual polymorphic
inline cache control flow... ba ha ha. Better ask that question

        ocf: "let's enlighten stupid users"

4/249 I think my employer logs all web traffic. Is there any free software
I can run to block this? Like a proxy or some sort? Thanks.
if you don't want to pay for ssl service do the following:
           1. setup apache+ssl at home
           2. write a cgi that takes in url request and then forwards
it to anonymizer and parses the response to get rid of
              the annoying tags.
           3. configure your browser to use your home box as a proxy
Other options include hacking junkbuster to support https.
        \_ j is that you?
\_ you idiot, I can't even log into soda from work thanks
                 to a certain wonderful firewall.
\_ yes theres plenty of ways to do this.
\_ ob (it's what it was meant for -
i.e. people not knowing what you are doing exactly)

\_ How to check that the company logs all web traffic?
\_ write a bot that hammers a bunch of sites, such as,
and run it on your machine and all the
other machines you can get your hands on. Clueless admins will
think that its 'software updates' or some such thing. Your
real traffic will be obscured by the noise. Eventually the will
give up and realize that logging is stupid.
