BS/EECS with 2+ years of experience, mostly not Java tho.

\_ I'd swear <DEAD>salay.com<DEAD> is run by some company trying to get people
hired for peanuts. I think their figures are bogus. I believe
they're the ones that take a countrywide average and then add
some unknown figure for location. It's all voodoo.
       \_ 80K - 100K.

        -_Gore stole election
\_ Of course it'll be enough. Our people are doing the check for
voter intent. They're going to intend 1000+ Gore votes from
thin air. The kicker is that the FL SC used Illinois law in
their ruling. I got a big laugh out of that. Home state to
Daley and his vote box stuffing machine! Great stuff! Pie in
the face for all republicans! ahhahahhahha!

11/21 David Broder thinks that this is the sadest thanksgiving since
Kennedy died. Why to people think that Kennedy dying was a bad
thing? (I mean aside from the fact that LBJ and his BS came
about). I've never understood this adulation for Kennedy. He
was an awful president and an even worse man.
\_ I've heard he was an adulterous speed addict. --PeterM
\_ People are stupid. The press helped create this "Camelot" image
for him. Why is the other Kennedy still in office instead of in
           jail?

11/22 Miami-Dade decided to scrap the rest of their handcount and just
count the 'undervotes' in a small room outside the view of the press
and public. It was funny seeing all the whiney repubs outside the
door chanting and yelling about it. GO GORE!

11/22 Thank God the Florida Supreme court finally made a solid decision and
has put the final nail in the Republican coffin. I don't care that
their ruling was clearly a sham and the US no better than any third
rate banana republic. The ends justifies the means. We must destroy
the republicans at any cost. They are evil.
\_ I take it you are a member of the COMMITTEE TO ELECT ALGOR BY
           ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
                \_ What's wrong with that?
2000/11/22 [Uncategorized] UID:19892 Activity:nil
11/22 How come our e-mail addresses now say
        user@soda.csua.berkeley.edu instead of user@csua.berkeley.edu? I
have to go fix my listing in a bunch of mailing lists now.
\_ No wonder I am not getting a bunch of emails I am supposed
           to get.

11/22 How many static IPs do you usually get from your DSL service?
Do they use subnetting? Besides host 0 and 255, all the others
assigned IPs can be used for web server, etc.?
\_ Default = 1, but you can order up to 4 from PacBell I believe
(costs extra, of course). I have one but use a gateway router
to share the connection across four computers.
\_ with pacbell, you get one for their basic level of service.
If you order 'enhanced DSL' not only do you get a non-PPPOE
connection (i.e. real ethernet), you get routed to you a
/27 ( 3 bit subnet, 6 useable IP addresses, one used by
your PBI gateway). So you get 5 IP's, for your ~$79/month. -ERic
\_ depends on your ISP. I have firstworld and they give two
static IP addrs per account. (You can possibly get more).
\_ @home provides 1 and you can get up to 4 more for $5/month each.
\_ But doesn't @home limit your total connections? They asked
my mother for MAC addresses of all machines to be used.
\_ This won't to jack for them if you are
using nat/pat. The next hop will only
see one MAC. Most likely they do bandwidth
shaping, by turning on discard queues after
a certain data rate has been exceeded.
\_ They didn't ask me for diddly and don't know diddly about
any of my machines. They installed the line and modem,
tested it, I approved the work, they left.
\_ they dont have to "ask you". They jsut bind to the
first MAC addr that requests access.

11/22 In NT, the Task Manager displays the amount of memory currently used
and the CPU % utilization. Is there any tool for Win98 that displays
the same info? Need to profile some software. Thanks. -- yuen
        \_ There's a bunch of third party ones. Try <DEAD>tuwcows.com<DEAD>. I don't
know if MS has released one. Uhm, hmmm, there is a non-dyanmically
updating tool from MS that provides some info and a bunch of other
random stuff but I can't recall the name. Not in real time anyway
though so I don't think that'll help you. Try tucows.
\_ wintop (in Win95's KernelToys package) shows you the cpu
utilization for different processes. doesn't show memory use though
