11/17 What are the implications (URL would be great) of being an officer of a company? I'm VP Eng of a new startup, and I'm wondering how/why I should push to be an officer. \_ I don't know if you have vc funding yet, but _unless_ you are really really really hip and profitable, VCs replace all the "O"s in a startup after they give you money and move in their own O's. Be warned. - paolo \_ You get a big golden handshake when you go under because they're making clueless people VP's. What's the company name? I want to know where not to send my resume. \_ I think officers usually have seats on the board of directors \_ No, not really. \_ What does "officer" mean at your company? Someone who is an officer at a bank, say, is not usually on the BoD. It's just a title that involves more stock options and signing authority. \_ Nick Kral, Gamers is a luz3r company. It doesn't matter what your title there is. Accept the fact and MOVE ON. You'll glad you did. You'd hope someone who claims to be a VP wouldn't post on the MOTD about this stuff. I guess startups are getting desperate. \_ My stock, as a founder, is already defined... Also, I'm not going to be on the board. The debate is whether or not I should be an officer. Why would I care? All the CEO said is that officers have "signing authority" but what does that mean? \_ Looks like your motivation is based on money. If the board of director likes you, he'll ask you to be on board. Otherwise, forget it. Very few honest men stand a chance of climbing to BoD. If you want to make it there, you need to learn how to be scumbag like the BoDs. |

This is utterly confusing! How can you expect a dumbass like me to figure it out? \_ Nice try. 1st graders in the deep south can get it right. Why can't race baiters like Jesse Jackson? Oh wait. They use the same ballot in *his* voting district and it went ok. |

11/17 There are 260 million Americans. Is a president who can spell, does well academically, is honest, has leadership abilities too much to ask for? \_ 1) Why does spelling count? 2) Why does GPA count? 3) Yes, because our political system is so dirty, very few honest men stand a chance of climbing that while yet remaining clean. \_ judging from your writing, i'd say you yourself come from a pretty fucked up country with horribly unjust politics. -ali \_ Name a country that is not f*ed up and has just politics. \_ The president of Kirghizstan is a Ph.D. in physics, with a sizeable amount of work in his field. \_ In Red China we don't have these problems. All men in power are great leaders and are honest and academic. \_ Yeah, they just shoot people they don't agree with. \_ But they do it in a fair and nonpartisan manner. They shoot *all* of the people that don't agree with them. Sounds pretty fair to me. \_ Me Too. - ALGOR \_ They also get any hootchie they want. \_ More like ~300 million. Try counting the immigrants. \_ Don't use leftist terminology. It's 270 or so million citizens and legal residents and 30+ million illegal aliens that are here in violation of the law. Don't get sucked into the nonsense which blurs the line between perfectly acceptable legal immigration and other violating our borders. There is a big difference. \_ slavery has been abolished, these aliens should be freed and not held in bondage by the threat of deportation \_ If I wasn't sitting on the floor, I'd have fallen off my chair laughing! This is one of the best trolls in a long 10+ days worth of trolls! Yes! No more borders! One world government! Oh! Please stop! It hurts to laugh so hard! Thank you for brightening my day. \_ Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Fuhrer! \- 300M is too high. A little over 275M residents in US [and about 210-220M guns]. --psb \_ "One World, One Web, One Program" |

Athlon = K7 > PIII > Duron > Celeron > K6-2 > K6-3 > PII \_ Why is K6-2 > K6-3? \_ It's not. \_ Athlon = K7 > PIII > Duron > Celeron > K6-2 > K6-3 > PII \_ Why is K6-2 > K6-3? \_ It's not. \_ isn't PII > Celeron? I thought Celeron was a PII without a special cache. Yeah, and I think K6-3 > K6-2 \_ Yep, and PII > K6-{2,3} \_ new try: Athlon=K7 > PIII > Duron > PII > K6-3 > Celeron > K6-2 \_ That's a big difference dumbass. \_ fyi, the two tries are from two different people. |

11/17 How do most cars eventually "die"? (excluding terrible accidents) \_ When the cost of repairs is higher than the value of the car. \_ 150K on trasmission rebuild, 200K on engine overhaul. \_ my uncle's literally went up in flames on Mother's Day. He was brilliantly trying to get it re-started and just cranking the engine until flames started to appear under the hood. Real spectacle, with the fire department and all. -- bitter alum \_ Whatever. Rednecks can't be bitter. Deal. \_ do you donate the car? Send to the junkyard? Sell to some poor college student? \_ Donate. \_ Donating is a pain in the ass, most charity groups take forever + repeat phone calls to get around to picking it up. \_ Nah, I made a call, they showed on time, I filled out some papers, they left me with some proof for my taxes and hauled it away. Call a different charity if your first choice flakes. \_ if it's old enough, send it to the california auto retirement program... get a few bucks and get a smoker off the road. \_ how long do i have for my honda 97 accord w/ 82000 on it? \_Honda's are pretty reliable in general. I've seen japanese cars go 140-180k perfectly fine with normal maintainance done. \_ Depends on the type of driving. My '89 Honda Civic had 235,000 miles on it when I traded it in, and it was still running perfectly. But 95% of those miles were freeway miles. Never had the engine rebuilt or any major system overhauled ... -eric |

11/16 More important than what the media talks about is what they don't. A few items no longer or never mentioned: James Car-Vile, Jesse Jackson and the "it's another Selma!" brigade, the confused people, Hillary!, Bill, any senior Democrats publicly stating their support for Al Gore (Wexler's mewling doesn't count), Wexler, Al Gore's attempted coup, election fraud, the networks calling Florida 70+ minutes before the pandhandle polls closed (when working repubs are going to the polls), the networks calling Gore states instantly and waiting hours to call Bush states creating the false appearance that Gore was sweeping the election. And finally a comment on GWB: GWB is clearly too stupid to realise you can't fight the Democrats on their own terms, so here he is plowing forward, day after day, pretty much ignoring the media, polls, and everything else, not really fighting too hard, just kind of being there, doing something the Dems have never encountered before: saying "No". Bye Al. Your career is over no matter what you do. I've met Bill Clinton, and you sir, are no Bill Clinton. \_ Bill Clinton is my hero! \_ Bill Clinton was the best president we've had for a generation. \_ I'm da MAN! - BC \_ Another thing you never hear in the press: the fact that the Republicans have hand recounted Republican majority counties in Florida and added them to George Bush's votes and now want to stop the Democrats from doing the same: http://orlandosentinel.com/elections/1110sem.htm This is conservative newspaper who endorsed Bush, if you doubt the source. \_ Nyet, Comrade! These votes were put through the machine again, despite what your pro-American yankee pig dog lying media would have you believe! They were not hand counted by hundreds of people sitting in a room guessing how pregnant a chad is. Try again. Hail to the Emperor, Gore! We must try harder in the future to persuade the public our lies are true! Truth is media! The media is us! Will of the People! We are the Majority Party! |

11/16 1976: Carter 297, Ford 240, Reagan 1 (margin of 57) Was Reagan an independent candidate? (the above are electoral votes) \_ The electors are able to vote for whomever the choose. In 76 one vote in Washington (state, not dc) was cast for Reagan. Take a look at the following page: http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/case/3pt/electoral.html The relavent part: "Most recently, in 1976, a Republican elector in the state of Washington cast his vote for Ronald Reagan instead of Gerald Ford, the Republican presidential candidate. Earlier, in 1972, a Republican elector in Virginia deserted Nixon to vote for the Libertarian party candidate. And in 1968, Nixon lost another Virginia elector, who bolted to George Wallace. 11/16 If the keys are integers, then bucketize each array (not even a full integer sort: just count the # occurences of each key). That's 2N. Then, just subtract the occurence buckets and populate C with the contents of the subtracto. Three passes through. If the contents are not integers, then do exactly the same thing but use a hash table to maintain key counts, instead of an array (and universal hashing is cool). (if the integer keys are sparse, use hash or sparse array, tossup which is faster) [trivia: the preceding is an answer to what lazy motders question?] [trivia: who conceived universal hashing] |

11/16 If Gore wins, 30 states will succeed from the union \_ California shouldn't need this election as an excuse to cecede (yes it's "cecede" troll) from the union. We have all the good \_ Try "secede" you loser spelling-god wannabe. stuff. Without the United States we would have the 6th (new figures?) largest economy in the WORLD. Think about it. It's a good plan. \_ Hi troll. This is the dumbest thing posted on the motd in at least 6 months. \_ I would hope all 50 would. \_ Bush supporters also tend to have the same level of vocabulary as Bush himself. \_ Typical leftist. If you can't win, smear, smear, smear. They \_ smear? You dumbshit. Everyone knows Bush is a crack smoking idiot. Even Republicans know that. Even his dad. It has nothing to do with who wins this damn election. The guy can't say an English sentence without fucking up. \_ So, the ends justifies the means? It's ok to steal the election is the end result is what you want? Wow... how naive of me to think The Will Of The People still mattered.... \_ The Republicans stole the election by hand counting ballots in Republican majority counties then refusing the Dems the same right. voted, Bush won. They recounted, Bush won. They're in court now, Bush is winning there, too. The recounts aren't _creating_ enough new Gore votes to change anything. Bush won. The overseas votes are 5:3 (R) voters, Bush won. Give it up. You've been in the Bay Area too long. Even my coworkers who voted Gore are saying he lost and should give it up. \_ The Republicans stole the election, not Gore. \_ Err ... I also think Gore should give up, but that doesn't mean I should like Bush Jr., or have any confidence in his vocabulary. \_ This isn't about GPA's, even though Bush's GPA was higher. It's about stealing the election through the courts with PR blitz assistance from the slanted press. \_ Then they will be rogue states. Hope they can defend themselves. \_ good riddance \_ So if 30 succeed, will the other 20 (not incl PR and DC) fail? \_ I'd like Gore to take a road trip from East to West Coast. I dare him to try to find a path through Democratic States. He won't be able to without being forced to cross through Republican country (can't leave the U.S. borders, of course). \_ Who cares? They're a bunch of gun hugging hicks who marry their cousins. \_ We leftist call that "fly over country". Driving is for plebes. \_ This must be a troll. Republicans know better than to call for secession based on the results of an election; we value the laws of the land (unlike most democrats). \_they would cecede because this has become a nation of lawyers not laws. Al Gore can win an election by a judge and not law. So why note cecede and keep the constitution the way it was meant to be? \_ You people are all fucking pathetic. This is almost-but-not- quite above the level of knuckle-dragging trash talking you get in an 8th grade pickup basketball game. I'm ashamed to have graduated from the same educational system that spawned people as incapable of rational thought as yourselves. And the worst of it is, you get to vote on my taxes. Spite, contempt, vitriol. -John \_ Hi John. If they voted intelligently, they'd be lowering your taxes. Intelligently = can read a ballot and poke 1 hole per candidate. \_ Is there more than 1 hole per candidate? \_ In Florida, some morons voted once for Al Gore and a second vote for that nice Joe fellow because he's a nice boy, you know? |
