11/17 What are the implications (URL would be great) of being an officer
of a company? I'm VP Eng of a new startup, and I'm wondering how/why
I should push to be an officer.
\_ I don't know if you have vc funding yet, but _unless_ you are really
really really hip and profitable, VCs replace all the "O"s in a
startup after they give you money and move in their own O's.

\_ What does "officer" mean at your company? Someone who is an
officer at a bank, say, is not usually on the BoD. It's just
a title that involves more stock options and signing authority.

be an officer. Why would I care? All the CEO said is that
officers have "signing authority" but what does that mean?
\_ Looks like your motivation is based on money. If the board of
director likes you, he'll ask you to be on board. Otherwise,
forget it. Very few honest men stand a chance of climbing to
BoD. If you want to make it there, you need to learn how to be

does well academically, is honest, has leadership abilities too
much to ask for?

japanese cars go 140-180k perfectly fine with normal
maintainance done.

had 235,000 miles on it when I traded it in, and it
was still running perfectly. But 95% of those miles
were freeway miles. Never had the engine rebuilt or

A few items no longer or never mentioned: James Car-Vile, Jesse
Jackson and the "it's another Selma!" brigade, the confused people,
Hillary!, Bill, any senior Democrats publicly stating their support
for Al Gore (Wexler's mewling doesn't count), Wexler, Al Gore's
attempted coup, election fraud, the networks calling Florida 70+
minutes before the pandhandle polls closed (when working repubs are
going to the polls), the networks calling Gore states instantly and
waiting hours to call Bush states creating the false appearance that
Gore was sweeping the election. And finally a comment on GWB: GWB is
clearly too stupid to realise you can't fight the Democrats on their
own terms, so here he is plowing forward, day after day, pretty much
ignoring the media, polls, and everything else, not really fighting
too hard, just kind of being there, doing something the Dems have

(and universal hashing is cool).
