next big thing. i'm telling you.
        \_ Waste of bits.
\_ A waste of motd let me tell you.

5/26 Who's responsible for "you must be this tall" in the motd.public
header? And how long has it been there?
        \_ Why do you care?

5/26 I mailed in my tax return about two weeks prior to april 15th. Along
\_ you and tens of millions of other people
with a check for the tax that I owe. IRS still hasn't cashed in
that check. Is this a sign that I'm goign to get audited? I don't
want to call them about this because they might flag me down for an
audit. Or should I wait longer?
\_ Visiting Fresno will also get you audited.
\_ They haven't cashed any of mine yet, so don't freak.
\_ Give me your name, i'll call them up to check for you
\_ Never paid taxes before, huh?
\_ Lucky. They instacashed my check for $7k. Ugh.
\_ That's a bad sign. You're one step from an audit.
\_ Well, it worked out. Was first year earning a lot, yadda
yadda, didn't have to pay penalty. And, of course, paying
it at the end rather than having it withheld is winning (sort
of) since you got to use the money during the year. (Still
                 hurts though)
\_ They obviously lost your check. Send another and tell your
bank to cancel the first one.
\_ I have first-hand information that the IRS is planning to secede
from the union. Guess where they're getting the funding?
\_ They're going to IPO? How do I get in on it?

5/28 How would one configure pine to change the format of the file
name of the old sent-mail folders? Instead of sent-mail-feb-2000,
something like sent-mail-2000-feb, so that an ls of the directory
will sort them correctly (sorting by creation date won't work in
        my case).
        \_ mh.
\_ maybe make an alias that does: ls sentmail* | sort -t- +3
But even if you changed it to YYYY-MMM, wouldnt "ls" still
not sort correctly? (the months would not be in sequence)
           Pine is so lame.
Pine is so lame...maybe there is a way to make it use
numeric months, since not everybody speaks english anyways?
\_ Why try to force pine to do something it can't? Either
change the source and recompile or use a real mail handler.
\_ pine is a real mail reader you air-head. Just because
some people don't like to type inc, scan, comp, munpack
whatever doesn't make pine any less of a mail reader
                      than mh.
\_ Uh oh... someone displaying their near total
ignorance of mh and then calling someone else an
                           air-head. Sigh... I suppose I shouldn't have hoped
for better from newbie pine users on the motd. Pine
is a cute toy for kids and works just fine if you
are happy with the defaults someone else has set
for you. If you want to take control of your mail,
use a real mail handling system instead of a kid's
toy. Nothing beats procmail/mh for total control,
but it isn't a toy for kids. It requires some tiny
effort to learn. Power comes with a price, kids.
Some assembly required. Ask your parents for help.

5/27 WE CAN ALL READ SLASHDOT, FOLKS. you don't have to copy the lars
ulrich stuff to the motd. And if you want to comment on it, get a
        slashdot account. geez.
        \_ 'nuff said.
\_ Actually, I appreciate the filtering. Please continue to
post /. stuff here that you find noteworthy.
\_ No. Don't. Go read fucking /. Idiot. The motd is not
a post-/. filter for the lazy and inept.
                   \_ Disagreement.
                   \_ I disagree.
\_ You're right. The motd is only for what you want
                      it to be.
\_ Yup. Think "slashdot repeat purge jihad". The motd
only has content we all agree should be on it. You
think about that one for a bit before blabbing
                           further stupidities.

5/28 Top Crime Fighters

In an effort to determine the top crime fighting agency in the country, the
president narrowed the field to three finalists, the CIA, the FBI, and the
Chicago Police. The three remaining contenders were given the task of catching
a rabbit which was released into the forest.

The CIA went into the forest. They placed animal informants throughout. They
questioned all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive
investigation they concluded that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI went into the forest. After two weeks without a capture, they burned
the forest killing everything in it, including the rabbit. They made no
apologies. The rabbit deserved it.

The CPD went into the forest. They came out two hours later with a badly
beaten bear. The bear was yelling " Okay, Okay, I'm a rabbit, I'm a rabbit".
