4/33 My brother is a MCSE looking for a job in the LA area. Anybody know of a good contracting agency in LA? He's looking for an entry level NT admin position. Thanks. \_ I love how people think that these certifications actually mean anything. "ooooh. He's Microsoft certified. He must be competent." \_ Good Sodan, you are preaching to the choir. \_ I assume you mean LA as in Los Angeles rather than LA as in Louisiana? \_ Yes, (s)he really means the Lousiana area ... \_ Duh? Spent more than a week in California? \_ giggle. \_ tee hee. \_ wow. Cherry Poptart on the motd. \_ LA sucks. the only ppl who live there are like lame ppl.. oh right, MSCE certified... \_ help! i'm feeling, like, sooo lame today. but the sucking helps. \_ email your resume to kinney@csua i hear he's hiring asp/web ppl. \_ Whoah. Yu guyz doo ASP. Dats RAD dude. Ware Kan eye ketchup to da bleeeding edge man? -tjb \_ Quit defaming his once good name. He can do that himself. \_ Good name? The day the playboy interview comes out and she lists "Berkeley Computer Losers" under her 'turn ons' list, is the day, uhm, uhm, well nothing, it would never happen. |

4/33 does the uc berkeley web page suck? Why or why not? i get to bitch to people who are incharge of it tomorrow. \_ The search engine sucks. License Google. \_ The design is much more functional than it was. I have some issues with the colors. I think the search engine works pretty well. -tom \_ No need: use http://www.google.com/berkeley \_ Why is it the color of baby-shit? \_ Well, because they thought that the web (and thus all of science, was not appealing to the gentler sex. Thus, if they made the webpage a colour that women can recognize then women wouldn't be afraid of it. \_ boy that's funny. -tom \_ Huh? It's true. That's the real reason. And, "That's *not* funny!" -Berkeley Dyke \_ Odd... I thought Dykes-R-Us had discontinued its "Opinionated Dyke" inventory line. -(fucker) \_ It's functionally much better than the last page was. I have some issues with the colors (not just the background, the ALINK LINK and TEXT colors are insufficiently distinguished). I think the search engine works fine. -tom \_ Ah think it's a cunt. |

4/34 My dept is short of people. Is it better to recruit the "perfect" employee and risk losing development time, or recruit a mediocre employee whom we will invest a huge amount of time in training? \_ you won't find the perfect employee..he doesn't exist. give the underdog a chance. \_ how about somebody in between? \_ no offense but if you can't make these judgements, maybe you shouldn't be the one doing the hiring. \_ Note that, from the original post, the possibilities that the \_ We went with an 70% guy (95-100% being a perfect person). Two people were 45% and one was 55% but had already taken another offer. 4/34 ILOVEYOU \_ Suck it, Barney. \_ My coworker just got this virus. \_ Bwahahahahhaha! -unix user \_ So what's the ultimate virus? - Is self mutating as the avoid antivirus software (like HIV) - Has long and random incubation period to allow virus to spread undetected - Is small - Has several means of replication - Has several forms of attack (erasing bios, etc). - Chooses form of attack randomly - Anything else? \_ spreads a toxin such that, even when killed, can cause significant damage...like botulism \_ Sentient virus. \_ Has the ability to take private emails and post them on /. \_ I don't understand why anyone would be tempted, even in the slightest, to open/execute a .vbs attachment unless they were working on it in a development environment in which case calling the script "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.txt.vbs" in an email titled "ILOVEYOU" would certainly not be a rational approach to achieving whatever results the originators of viruses want to achieve by virtue of their massively blatent and painful character flaws, but, then again, I don't quite understand why Exchange can't filter this shit, or, for that matter, why people even use Exchange at all, other than that they be on a par with whatever cognitively impotent sheepshifter originated this virus, FUCKING LOSERS. -(fucker) \_ (fucker), your flaming skills have gone down the toilet. You need to flame more. If I keep seeing embarassing little snipets like the one above, I will have to stop calling myself (fucker)'s #1 fan. -(fucker)'s #1 fan \_ can't we all get along? \_ You're not the real -(fucker)'s #1 fan. 4/34 Do I want to take 162 from Smith next semester? ISTR somebody saying something bad about him. Comments? \_ He's only the worst teacher in the department. You learn about hardware that was popular in the 1970's from the world's most boring man. Sure, you can still learn a lot from the course, but none of your learning will be attributable to him. His tests are very straightforward, but don't really show much in terms of real understanding. \_ I remember his final exam was full of hard disk data questions and only one or 2 questions on networking. \_ aren't they all boring men except for maybe coach luvitz..woops, i mean harvey? Or maybe clancy is ok except that he will fuck you hard when you least expect it. \_ Harvey teaches 162? \_ smith is a beotch! |

4/34 In solaris i can just edit the /etc/system file to change the shared memory and semaphore segments. Is there an as easy way to do this in linux (RH) or is it time to recompile the kernel? \_ It's Linux. What's your guess? Greatest OS in the world. \_ You're getting your kernels and your OSes confused again. \_ No. I'm not. Thanks for the input though. \_ You're an idiot. \_ kernel/{msg{mnb,mni,max},shmmax,sem} under sysctl. man sysctl, man sysctl.conf. -lim |

How long do you think this internet startup->IPO hype will last? \_ Never before and never again. (The big automakers were all public long before the 1950's.) \_ There is certainly no comparison between the stuff now and biotech startups in the 80's. |
