splattered all over the bathroom wall. |

10/13 Anybody know of a free proxy server out there? I just need something
very very simple no fancy features. Thanks.
\_ natd. much more transparent than using a proxy server.
\_ wingate or winroute.
\_ What type of Proxy? HTTP only? If so, Squid, Apache, & CERN
(listed in order of proxy-studliness - don't bother with CERN
anymore - apache's overkill for just a proxy, squid kicks ass)
\_ squid kicks its own ass. The only reason it stays up
is because the start script is basically
' while true; do squid ; done'
\_ is Squid GNU software? I couldn't find it on the gnu sites.
where can I find it? Thanks.

\_ Thank you Wired News!
\_ "Password-stealing emails"? Is this social engineering, or some
K-RAD N3W PASSWURD ST3AL1NG HACK1NG V1RUZ????/???
\_ Standard "click on idiot.exe" in html email to send your password
to random account bullshit. The only fault AOL has is having a
browser available to it's customers that allows them to run an
.EXE from a hyper link. |

10/13 Using purely free solutions, is MacNFS + Samba on a UNIX server
the best way to share files on a heterogenous network?
\_ I use netatalk+asun patches (free), which supports mac's afs
over tcp, so you dont' have to install nfs clients on your
macs, and you dont' have to run appletalk on your network.
Works great for me. |

10/13 12"active Laptop.266 Cyrix CTX.32Mb ram.2 mb video.
$1200 is this a good deal? has anyone had problems using linux or
freeBSD on one of these machines (i.e.wht's not supported?) - paolo
\_ depends on the brand name. Also, I think you have no warranty
you can get new clones for that much - you must check the video
chipset and cross-ref with the X Window system you'll be using
\_ 1200 for a this is terrible. -jor
\_ For 1200, I can get you 3 of these *and* some good swamp land.
This is total robbery. Do *not* do this. Go look at *new* prices
for the same laptop. |

10/13 Let's say that I work at company X, and it offers excellent health
plan for my family. My son is weak and requires a lot of
medical attention, and without company X's health insurance, we
would not survive. Now, if I switch to company Y, how does the
transfer of insurance work?
\_ It doesn't. The insurance from company X expires. YOu need to
use insurance from company Y to pay your son's future medical
expenses.
\_ Learn about COBRA.
\_ COBRA doesn't last forever. This guy needs a stable
corporate job with a suit where no one gets fired and
no one goes out of business.
\_ cobra will be available at X's cost plus a tiny amount for
18 months, in general. |

10/13 So, say i want to ssh to another site that allows it. How do i do
it? "ssh http://siteName.com" returns the error that the host key is not
found and asks me over and over if i want to keep connecting.
\_ say yes you idiot.
\_ Well, I'll be damned. that WORKED! (o.k., o.k., in defense
of my idiocy, when was the last time you had to type in
"yes" to answer a computer's yes-no question? I typed 'y'
for fuck's sake. I even tried 'Y' just in case. But the
IDEA of typing 'yes' never even entered my mind.
\_ Obviously you are not an emacs user. You therefore
don't deserve to be able to ssh.
\_ If Cal gave you a degree, give it back. If not yet, drop
out and go to Stanford. |

10/13 Hey, dipwad with the brain-dead editor:
you're not intelligent enough to edit the motd. so stop now.
\_ Which braindead editor was that? emacs, vi, jove, pico, or what
*I* use to edit the motd: MS Word 2000 over the net?
\_ That's the one! -mogul |
