8/2 Does anyone here suffer from acid reflux? I read some newsgroup
articles on it, and it seems like that everyone who posts feels
pain in the chest. I only feel a constant tinge of acid at the
back of my throat after dinner, a few times a week. Do I have
        acid reflux?
\_ ask a doctor you idiot
\_ you suffer from toxic megacolon
\_ yes, and you need to drink Drano to counteract it... hahaha

8/1 Anyone taken a look at, or know anyone who has taken a look at the
source for pgp 6.5.1. For some reason i have more faith in the
integrity of the older versions. (Just 'cause i'm paranoid doesn't
mean that they're not out to get me).
\_ What makes you suspicious of 6.5.1?
\_ Old Calvary are suspicious of tanks. It is just because,
back in the day, i was around paranoid types that i trusted
who said PGP had been checked and was o.k. That was
pre pgp_for_windows and pre talk of clipper chips.
\_ I looked at it. Did you see the function in there called
           SendKeyAndDataToJanetReno@FBI.GOV??? I was shocked but it's
           really in there! No kidding!

8/2 http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9908/02/ucita.idg
Now, it is legal for Microsoft's Windows 2000 to use the internet
to check the validity of the license, and disable Win2000 remotely.
This is BAD for pirates like us.
\_ Can you say "input firewall rule"?
           ipchains -A input -j REJECT -s <DEAD>.microsoft.com<DEAD>
\_ it is? all you have to do is blackhole *.microsoft.com via
routing. But the UCITA is bad for other reasons.
\_ Its already dangerous to put a windoze machine on the net.
\_ pirates can surely still crack the licensing mechanism.
           \_ such as ... ?
\_ This sounds like a great ODS attack. Can anyone say bo2k plug-in?

8/2 I'm trying to decide whether to buy a palm III or winCE PDA. The killer
app for me is maps. MS has Street2000 that let you export maps of
cities in its CD and d/l onto a winCE device. I couldn't find
something like that for the Palm Pilot. I could only find
downloadable maps of some specific cities or places. But not
something comprehensive like Street2000. Does such a thing exist for
        the Palm platform? Thanks.
\_ http://www.mapquest.com -- try the button "download to palm pilot"
\_ did you check out the gps stuff for the p3? Delomre has some map
           stuff
\_ another person posted some stuff about http://mapquest.com. it lets you
download individual maps, but not searchable maps of an entire
city. E.g. a comprehensive map of berkeley or oakland in one
           downloadable file.

Can anyone recommend a good dentist in Berkeley? -crebbs

8/2 After hearing from my friends on how well they are doing at the
stock market and watching some realy cool E-Trade commercials,
I've decided to take charge of my own finance. Which broker is
good and reliable? E-Trade? Datek? AmeriTrade? Also, does anyone
know the actual statistic for people getting rich via on-line
trading? 50%? 70%? I've researched on http://quote.yahoo.com and it seems
that the stock market has no where to go but up up up!
        \_ I think it's more like 95-98&; at least that's what I heard
in one of the chat rooms.
\_ stock trading is legalized gambling. Assume, assume that
no more than 50% of people currently trading actively
(vs people putting money in mutual funds) "get rich".
Now consider that those people tend to deal in "volatile stocks",
and 9 out of 10 new businesses fail.

8/2 KDE vs enlightenment. What's better?
\_ ED! ED! ED is the STANDARD! Window Manager.
\_ You fucking idiot! Everyone knows /bin/cat is a better editor!
        \_ windowmaker? -- ilyas
\_ just use twm. anything else is for the weak. -scotsman
\_substract and branch if negative -anything else is for the weak.
\_ KDE = faster, enlightenment = prettier. Go figure.

8.2.99 Ok, it is now 1500 hours and the manuals that are lying outside of
the office are still there. C'mon, where's that old CSUA spirit
of learning about unix? C'mon take these. We got it all. Ultrix,
Solaris, DecUnix, etc. We got your sun field manuals, your Ultrix
        development stuff. Come on DOWN!
\_ Maybe Solaris or Linux or FreeBSD but nobody is interested in
           learning about Ultrix.
\_ I don't need any manuals, thank you: man xxxx is sufficient
\_ I don't need any manuals, thank you: man xxx is sufficient
for me and takes a lot less space. --PeterM
\_ are your hardware manuals in manpages too? --Jon
\_ Ultrix is dead. I believe Compaq/DEC no longer supports it although
they are of course still honoring pre-paid support contracts until
           those expire too.
